Principal's Points
Good Afternoon St. Stephen Families,

I would like to start by sharing some great news. I am so very proud of this year's graduating class. Three of our students received the Pope Francis Merit Scholarship to Tampa Catholic. Students receive this scholarship because they scored in the top 1-2% on the entrance exam. Of the 18 students in 8th grade, eight are going to Tampa Catholic next year, one is going to the Academy of the Holy Names, one is going to Jesuit, and one is going to Cristo Rey. The other students will attend local public high schools, and one is going to Seffner Christian Academy.

If you joined us for Mass this week, you would have seen how beautiful our 2nd grade and 8th grade students looked as they processed through the church to crown Mary. The student who crowned Mary was chosen by her peers as being someone who was like Mary - kind, accepting, helpful, shows humility, etc., and this honor was well-deserved.

If your child is returning next year, please be sure to complete the survey below and give us his/her t-shirt size for the spirit shirt. Our theme next year will be.... (drum roll) "Make a Difference!" Our teachers strive to make a difference in the lives of our students and our hope is that when they graduate from St. Stephen, they go out and Make a Difference in the lives of others and in the world.

Some good news for some of our families from Step Up for Students - this past year, scholarships were made available for military families, and now the state is offering scholarships for dependents of full-time law enforcement officers, regardless of income. To learn more about this scholarship, go to https://www.stepupforstudents.org/leo/

Scholarship Applications are now open to new families for a 2022-23 scholarship for private school through Step Up For Students. Apply Today! The website is https://www.stepupforstudents.org/scholarships/scholarships-for-private-school/

Now for some sad news. Due to health concerns, Mrs. Flo Pesquera has had to resign from her position effective immediately. If you have any questions regarding tuition or scholarships, please email me until we find a replacement. Ms. Jaslyn Wallace also resigned effective immediately for personal reasons. Our new ESE teacher will not be starting until August. In the meantime, I will assist with questions you may have, and Mrs. Hamel and Mrs. Garcia will continue to work with students on support plans.

Thank you all for your continued support and all your well-wishes during Teacher/Staff appreciation, and a BIG thank you to PTCO for all the delicious treats this week!

Peace,

Linda Umoh

A Week of Appreciation

was delicious, and the ice cream bar on Wednesday was a special treat. The messages of appreciation to teachers and staff sent in by parents were especially thoughtful.

St. Vincent De Paul Tea and Fundraiser
The annual St Vincent de Paul Tea and Fundraiser is scheduled for 9/17 in the FLC. The cost is $25 per person
For the past several years, school Moms have supported this event and each grade has been able to fill a table.
It is an amazing event that is fun and offers an opportunity to meet other school Moms and parishioners.
If you would like to be the Mom to promote the event to other Moms in your student's class, let me know. Teachers and staff also enjoy
attending. Your table does not need to be limited to school Moms. Guests are welcome to sit at your table or can help to fill another grade's table. We will be putting tables together now and again in August. If you would like to help your class be represented while also supporting this very worthy ministry, please contact me at ngallagher@sscsfl.org.

MUSTANG SPORTS
Unfortunately, the boys varsity basketball team had a few players get sick this week. And with a limited roster they didn't have enough boys to play their playoff game. In turn, their quarterfinal game against Nativity was canceled. It wasn't the end of the season we hoped for but Coach Green is super proud of the varsity boys. They played a few games with just 5 players and represented St Stephen with great effort and determination.
Good season Mustangs!

Coach Green is hosting the St Stephen sports camps again this summer in the FLC. Basketball camp is July 11-15 and Volleyball Camp is July 18-22. Basketball camp is 9:00-3:00 and volleyball camp is 9:00-1:00. Students and parishioners who will be in 3rd-8th grade for the 2022-23 school year are eligible to attend. Both camps are $150 and include a camp shirt. See Tidbits for more info and registration details.
