Our Diamond Jubilee Gala:
A Fabulous & Memorable Event
Photo of Father Don Farnan
What a fabulous 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Gala! The event, held last Saturday evening at Saint Pius X High School, was wonderful, from start to finish. There were numerous hard workers behind the scenes to which we owe many thanks. Among them is Christi Ryan, who arranged rental items, catering, and phenomenal entertainment. Carolyn and Natalie Ross organized the “memory table” and stage decorations and coordinated the Easter Egg Hunts on Easter weekend for a hundred of our children. Mary Marotta oversaw the table decorations for the dinner, while also decorating our gathering space with student artwork and the Saint Joseph mural in Borromeo Hall.

Denny and Susan Davis took time and much effort to transport the panel timeline displays from church to the high school foyer; they are also helping with the publication of commemorative books for our diamond anniversary.
Leanora DiCapo oversaw ticket sales and table assignments (that were constantly changing). Lane Lucas headed the communications effort for the event and all other celebrations of our big seventy-fifth jubilee.

And archives committee members and troupes of volunteer workers have been busily working since early last year coordinating activities that started with our “Lighting the Way” celebration in December. Finally, of course, Cynthia Tomes has been at the helm of all ceremonies and festivities, marking this honorable year in our parish’s remarkable history. Thank you to all for making it so memorable and enjoyable!

Saint Charles Was Blessed
With Two Special Events On May 1
Photo of 2022 Borromeo Academy 2nd Grade First Communion at Saint Charles Borromeo Parish
It was a memorable day on May 1 at Saint Charles. The Parish was packed from top to bottom as we hosted the Borromeo Academy second grade First Communion in church and the annual St. Joseph Table event in Borromeo Hall.

It was beautiful to see all family members as they witnessed the twenty-seven scholars receiving First Communion. The St. Joseph Table was filled with attendees throughout the day. They enjoyed the wonderful Italian dinner and the spectacular table adorned with decorations and special homemade foods, candies, and bread. You can view more photos of the St. Joseph Table event on our Facebook page.

We were all truly blessed by both events!

Did You Know...Mother's Day
More calls are made on Mother's Day than any other day of the year. Reportedly there are approximately 122 million calls are made on the second Sunday of May every year.

On average, shoppers spend $180 on gifts for their mothers. A nationwide total of $4.6 billion was spent on jewelry and $4.4 billion on dinners or brunches last year.

One of the earliest Mother's Day celebrations was in Ancient Greece. The Greeks would have spring celebrations in honor of Rhea, the goddess of fertility, motherhood, and generation.

The history of American Mother's Day starts with peacemaker Ann Jarvis. During and following the Civil War, Ann Jarvis made a concerted effort to foster friendship and community between the mothers on both sides of the war. She started a committee in 1868 which established the first glimmer of today's holiday: "Mother's Friendship Day." Her daughter, Anna Reeves Jarvis sought to honor her own mother by establishing an intimate day of observance that is the basis of today's holiday. The very first Mother's Day was celebrated in 1908.

Some countries still observe ancient festivals honoring mothers. In India, people celebrate Durga-puja, a festival that pays homage to the mother goddess, Durga. This is a ten-day event that takes place around September or October.
Random Thoughts...Mother's Day
Definition of a mother: One person who does the work of twenty for free. See also: Saint, Wonder Woman.

If at first, you don't succeed, try doing it the way Mom told you to in the beginning.

Sometimes I open my mouth, and my mother comes out.

Working mothers are guinea pigs in a scientific experiment to show that sleep is not necessary for human life.

Nothing is really lost until your mom can't find it.

I got all my best qualities from my mom. Aren't we lucky that she had enough for both of us?
