From one village to another

The images and stories from Nepal after such a devastating earthquake are hard to ignore. We can help contribute to the relief effort and make a difference from one village to another. Jean Young from Arbutus Lifestyles is challenging the businesses in Qualicum Beach to put aside $5 a day for 30 days and match her contribution of $150.  Jean and the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce are partnering with the Qualicum Beach Rotary Sunrise and Disaster Aid Canada in support of the relief efforts currently underway in Nepal. The money we raise will be used to send Disaster Aid kits to a Tindhara, a remote mountain village where 98% of the homes were levelled and 34 people were killed.

A donation of $750 will provide a family of 10 a Disaster Aid kit which includes items such as a 3-room tent, water filtration system, hygiene kits, etc.

For more information on the kits and Disaster Aid Canada please go to http://www.disasteraid.ca/index.php?p=2_5_Family-Survival-Pack

Those up to the challenge can bring their cheques into the Chamber office at 124 West 2nd Ave. between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Friday before noon on May 22nd so we can take advantage of the Federal Government's pledge to match all donations made before May 25th, 2015. Tax receipts can be issued for donations of $20 or more, please donate what you can.

Cheques should be made payable to Disaster Aid Canada. Thank you.

The Vancouver Island Economy - A Discussion on the Economic Impact of the Energy Sector

Please join Brian Peckford P.C., LLD and the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce for a discussion about the economic impact of the energy sector on the Vancouver Island and British Columbia economy. The first part of the afternoon will be a presentation from the Honorable Brian Peckford P.C., LLD with plenty of time for questions, answers and discussion.

As, we all know energy is one of the most prominent topics in our world today. We need all forms of it to run our economies efficiently and successfully. With a big push currently on LNG development , the Province is hoping to become a player in the global LNG business. Emergency Preparedness Week

May 3 to May 9 is Canada's Emergency Preparedness Week. Recent earthquakes, both locally and around the world, have increased awareness that being prepared is a duty to themselves and those they take responsibility for.

Outsider Adventures of Qualicum Beach has been prominent in raising awareness of how to be "emergency ready" and they are now distributing the Survivormate range of "Grab and Go" bags for home, work, vehicle and school locker. These packs are available to suit individual needs, workplaces, residents'associations, PAC's, etc. and custom packs can be put together for groups with specific requirements.

Outsider will be exhibiting the range ths week at the EmergencyPreparedness Fair in Qualicum Beach (May6) and Parksville (May7).
