Mark Your Calendars for the End of the 
Year Picnic

Can you believe that it is already May!? We are one month away from the End of the Year Picnic and it is time to get excited! More information will come next week, but please mark your calendars that Wednesday, June 12, all are welcome to attend our end of the year celebration. 

*NEW this year: the picnic will be from 10am-12pm, and this day will be an early release Wednesday. After the picnic ends at 12pm, students will start heading back to TCGIS for dismissal from 12:45-1:00pm. Please note that this is the regular early release dismissal time. Be on the lookout for details next week, and mark your calendars today!
Reminder to Pick Up Medication

This is a reminder that all medication at school must be picked up at the end of the year.

These are the options of when you can pick up your child's medication:
  1. June 12th at the End of the Year Picnic (10:00am-12:00pm) when you sign your child out at the info table.
  2. June 12th  from the Kinderclub staff member at a table in the foyer
  3. June 13th  from 8am- 12pm in the Health Office.
Any medications not picked up by 12pm on June 13 will be discarded.
TCGIS School Board Voting

Elections for the school Board will be next week, May 13 through the 17th.  Please read about the  three applicants who are running for election to the TCGIS School Board. 
  • Ballots will be available online or at car drop off and pick up.
  • All ballots need to be turned into the front office (or the car pick up/drop off line) by Friday at 4:45, or postmarked by Thursday at 4:45 and arrive at the school by Tuesday mail drop off.
Market Day in Class 2C

After learning about money, making change and being a consumer and a producer, we crafted many different objects and sold them to Kindergarten A. Kids had fun buying items from the second graders and almost everything in 2C sold out! A successful day at the 2C market!
Last Chance to Buy Yearbooks

Going, going, almost gone! Buy the TCGIS yearbook before the price increases.  The online ordering  window closes on Friday, May 10th. Orders will be still possible through the office on Monday May 13, $25 per book (tax included into price). We accept cash, or checks payable to Twin Cities German Immersion School. If paying by cash, Please bring exact change $25
Congratulations to our TCGIS Track-and-Field Team!

Our girls, who placed 2nd in the distance medley, came in 4th out of 6 teams at Monday's meet at Central HS.  Our boys, who finished 1st more events than any of the other school, came in 3rd overall (only 8 points behind 1st).

Come to our other meets and cheer on your TCGIS Immers!

District 10 Special Elections

District 10 will hold a special election May 21 to fill a vacancy in an At-Large position on the Como Community Council board. It's a one-year term, until April 2020.

At least one TCGIS parent will be on the ballot. Please make sure you come out and vote! Any renter, homeowner, or other resident age 16 or older who lives in District 10 is eligible to run. So are authorized representatives from a business or nonprofit located in District 10. To get on the ballot, fill out the online application by Tuesday May 14.
Sign Up for Childcare During City Council Meetings

Kinderclub is offering extended childcare hours (until 7pm) during the two Council Meetings on 5/15 and 6/5, so parents can attend and show support for our school. Sign up by Friday, 5/10! Please pack a nut-free snack and a drink if your child is staying past 6pm!

Minikurse: Short Term Electives for 7th Graders
 


While 8th grade students are in Germany for the Capstone exchange, 7th graders select short mini-course electives from May 10th until June 3rd. During this time, students will be able to go more in-depth with specific interests, similar to German "Projektwochen." A few examples of May "Minikurse" are: Photography, Choir, 19th Century Fashion, and Streetball. We are happy for the opportunity to incorporate more student choice in spring electives!
State History Day

Ten projects from TCGIS moved on to the State History Day competition. This is the most projects TCGIS has ever had move on! Congratulations to all the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who competed. Special recognition for the following students: 
  • Andre Schrick (8th grade) for earning an honorable mention in the individual website category for his project The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire of 1911: A New America Born in Flames
  • Jakob Goelden (6th grade) for earning an honorable mention in the individual exhibit category AND winning a Minnesota History prize for his exhibit Dakota War of 1862 
  • Umay Pankratz, Lizzy Kile, and Simona Simha for winning fifth place in the group website category for their project The Battle of Yorktown: The World Turned Upside Down.  
GEMs Summer Camp Registration - NOW OPEN!


Missy Morrissey (Middle School) and Kim Kulhanek (Elementary School) are offering a summer MATH camp for girls with support from the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics Student Chapter at the University of Minnesota during the week of August 12th-16th. 

Registration Form  - Please complete for each child registered.

Who: All students entering grades 1-6
What:  GEMs Summer Math camp
Where: University of Minnesota, Vincent Hall
When: August 12th-16th, 2018, from 9am-12pm.
Cost: $150 (daily snack provided)

Congratulations to this Week's  Mausmünzen Winners

The selected students have shown exemplary behavior at TCGIS during the school day, and are representing their class and grade level. Meistermäuse have demonstrated to staff one or more of the following praised traits:  Sicherheit (safety),  Verantwortung (responsibility), and  Respekt (respect). 

Congratulations to Keirka (7a), Simon (2a), William (Ka), Stephan(3c), Sarah C. (5a), and Frau Van Gerpen.  Keep up the good work!
