Alumni Connection Feature and Graduation Speaker - Tim Latimer

Tim Latimer, Class of 2008

How can the world provide reliable energy for more people while also protecting the planet? That question has fueled the career of Tim Latimer (’08) — the 2026 commencement keynote speaker.

“That is kind of the existential challenge that we’re facing right now,” Latimer said. “How do you get more energy to more people? How do you unlock the prosperity and the quality of life that comes with energy, but do so in a way where we can be responsible stewards of the planet and our environment at the same time?”

As co-founder and CEO of Fervo Energy, Latimer is helping answer that question through next-generation geothermal technology designed to provide reliable, carbon-free energy around the clock. Last month, the company reached a major milestone with its IPO, marking another step forward for a business that has quickly become a leader in climate and energy innovation.

Thank you, Vanguard Community!

Thank you, Vanguard Parent Crew!

Thanks to the support of families and community members through the golf tournament, concessions, pecan sales, the MVP program, and other fundraising efforts, the Vanguard Parent Crew provided a wonderful Teacher Appreciation celebration and more than $40,000 in faculty and staff wish list items.

These gifts included classroom furniture, technology upgrades, academic tools, fine arts and athletic equipment, and student life resources that directly support students and teachers each day.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible and for all you do for Vanguard.

Bingo Bonanza raised more than $51,000 in support of Vanguard students, faculty, and programs.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, participated in the auction, or made a gift. Special thanks to Board Chairs Melanie Chatmas, Camille Wilder, and Jessica Meehan, along with Trevor Hickok ’19, Dain Shelton, Tanner Moore, Suzanne Kelly, Debbie Christensen, and all of the volunteers who helped make the evening such a success.

Thank you for supporting the Vanguard community.

A Vanguard tradition continues. Our Geometry students recently completed and turn aed in their String Art projects.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Grant Goble ’02 to Vanguard as a member of the Theatre, Speech, and Athletics faculty. Dr. Goble brings more than 20 years of experience in education and theatre education and returns to campus alongside his wife, Kate Cunningham Goble ’03.

As Dr. Goble joins the Vanguard community, we also extend our gratitude to Mr. William Priest, who will be relocating to the San Marcos area this summer after 14 years at Vanguard. Through French, theatre, and Mock Trial, Mr. Priest invested deeply in students and shared his passion for language, learning, and the performing arts. We thank him for his creativity, dedication, and lasting impact on Vanguard.

Luke Scarborough earned three state titles across cross country and track during the same academic year, one of the rarest accomplishments in Vanguard athletics history and the first Viking athlete to do so in TAPPS 4A competition.

His achievement places him alongside Vanguard alumnus Scott Goble '99, who won state titles in cross country, the 1600 meters, and the 3200 meters during the 1998 and 1999 seasons.

Two Vanguard seniors will continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Amelia Chen will play volleyball at Bryn Mawr College, and Aria Cleveland will continue cheer at Rice University.

Congratulations, Amelia and Aria!

The first Grant Herridge Middle School Golf Award was presented at the Middle School Athletic Banquet.

Thank you to alumna Zara Diaz ’25 for returning to campus to present the inaugural award to Ford Morrison.

The award will be presented annually in Grant Herridge’s name to a Vanguard middle school golfer.
