The Power of Being There
How monthly giving saves lives
|
|
Every once in a while an adopter comes to the shelter and asks, "Who has been here the longest?" For some time now, the answer to that question has been Harrison—or "Harry,'" as his Alliance family calls him. Harry came to our program on New Years Eve of 2019. Plagued by allergies and digestive issues, he was placed in an amazing foster home and took the first wobbly steps on his healing path.
Month after month our veterinarians prescribed treatments and changes in diet and month after month, members of our Animal Advocate Club provided Harry steady financial support on his journey. From $5 a month to larger monthly donations to in-kind donations of food, our AAC members were there. Being there every month gave Harry the time and the resources needed to save his life.
With the power of the Alliance behind him, Harry is a new dog! His medical issues are now under control and his previously painful skin is now wiggly and delightfully fuzzy. Because of Animal Advocate Club support, which also helps provide enrichment for animals, we were able to reintroduce Harry to the joys of playing with other dogs. Best of all? Harry is now available for adoption!
Monthly giving through the Animal Advocate Club helps so many Harrys get to adoption day. This month we are hosting a May membership drive and are aiming to reach 30 new (or upgraded) Animal Advocate Club members. Being there, even for as little as $5 a month, means the difference for puppies, kittens, cats, and dogs just like Harry.

Harrison, "Harry" is a sweet boy looking for a new family.
Harry is a six-year-old terrier/Staffordshire mix. He will do best in a home without small animals or other dogs. Harry needs a specific diet to stay happy and healthy due to his allergies. Call us at 970.484.8516 to learn more about this amazing guy who deserves a loving home.

SUMMER STOCK A SUCCESS!
Thank you for the sunny show of sup port for our "Summer Stock" supply drive. We are grateful to have received donations of tattoo needles for spays, canned air, rechargeable and regular batteries, trash bags, and soap. All of these clinic supplies were on our wishlists and were generously donated between May 14 and May 16.
Summer is looking bright with stocked shelves and monetary donations towards much-needed medical equipment. Thank you to all who donated for helping our clinic to offer accessible spay/neuter procedures, microchipping, and vaccinations to the pets in our community!

Jurgen, now Leo, had a run of bad luck when he first arrived. A urinary blockage gave our staff a scare but a special diet helps manage his health. Volunteering himself to pet shelter kittens made him a staff favorite. Leo's new family tells us:
"He's great! He is food motivated and does fine with the other cats and dog. He just wants to hang out with [the rabbits] but they’re not very happy that he’s in their habitat. He plays, eats and sleeps with us, a perfect fit!"

Taco arrived at Animal Friends Alliance in October of 2020. This charming corgi mix only had to wait 4 days before finding a new family to adopt him. He is now in a loving home and his people tell us:
"It’s been 6 months since we adopted Taco from you guys and we just couldn’t be happier! He has become such a sweet boy with so much personality. He loves to cuddle, play with our other dog, and he absolutely LOVES [playing in] the snow! "
