Discover meeting highlights below.

Strategic Plan Update

The Authority reviewed and formally adopted NVTA's Vision and Mission Statement. Additionally, they adopted four Strategic Goals to accomplish over the next five years.

Vision

NVTA will plan for, and invest in, a safe, equitable, sustainable, and integrated multimodal transportation system that enhances quality of life, strengthens the economy, and builds resilience.

Mission

Our mission is to reduce congestion in Northern Virginia by planning, funding, and advancing multimodal transportation solutions that reflect our Core Values of Safety, Equity and Sustainability.

Strategic Plan Timeline and Next Steps

Following last evening's adoption of the Vision Statement, Mission Statement and Goals, NVTA staff will begin to draft strategies and metrics associated with the approved Goals, with anticipated adoption of the 2025 Five-Year Strategic Plan in fall 2025.

Collaboration & Investment Across the Region

NVTA is proud to invest in and support our partners in improving Northern Virginia's transportation network. In addition to NVTA’s direct investments, local and regional agencies regularly seek our endorsement as they pursue funding through other federal, state, and regional programs and grants. Together, we support and advocate for the transportation needs of Northern Virginia, working to secure the resources necessary for vital projects that enhance the region.

As part of our funding process, NVTA has approved a Standard Project Agreement (SPA) with the City of Alexandria for the construction of bike and pedestrian trails. The SPA serves as the contract for project completion. This $5 million investment, adopted as part of the FY2022-2027 Six Year Program, will improve regional connectivity by enabling safe travel along Holmes Run Trail. The trail links central Alexandria, the West End, and Fairfax County with regional trails that connect to Old Town, Arlington and, Washington, DC. The project will also provide a connection to the future West End Transitway station at North Beauregard Street and Sanger Avenue.
