Protecting Those Who Protect Us

Welcome to the BSAC Mission Brief, a monthly update to keep our members connected to the mission of the Broward Sheriff’s Advisory Council. From new initiatives and community partnerships, to upcoming events and opportunities to get involved, we hope to keep you informed on how BSAC continues to support first responders, their families, and our Broward County community.

We join the City of Oakland Park Fire Rescue in mourning the loss of Battalion Chief Kevin Fornash. On April 9, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer, he passed away. He is survived by his loving wife, two sons who serve as BSO firefighters, and a daughter-in-law who is also a firefighter with the City of Oakland Park.

On Sunday, April 5, 2026, while on duty at Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, Firefighter/Paramedic Lepselter experienced a medical emergency. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased. He is survived by his loving wife, children, and sibling.

We are honored to support these families during this difficult time and to stand beside those who protect and serve our community.

The family of fallen firefighter Steven Lepselter, his wife, Elizabeth, and their children, Andrew and Brooke, enjoyed the special day together. Andrew, currently a junior in high school, is pursuing his passion for aviation and hopes to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. This day served as a meaningful reminder of our organization’s primary mission to support the families of fallen first responders. Even after their loved one is gone, we remain committed to standing beside their families for years to come. (Photos Here)
