Displaced homemakers are individuals who have lost their primary source of income due to divorce, separation, or death of a spouse or partner, or who are living with a disabled spouse/partner. Mainly women, displaced homemakers are often single mothers who are working hard to find gainful employment to support themselves and their children. They often have low-paying jobs or multiple part-time jobs without benefits or steady income. Many displaced homemakers have spent years taking care of their family, unable to compete in the current job market due to rusty or outdated skills.
This is where the JFS Women’s Center can help – supporting displaced homemakers as they work toward financial self-sufficiency through education, job readiness, life skills development and connection to supportive services. Taking the first steps toward professional and personal development are often the most difficult, but with the JFS Women's Center at your side, you are not alone.
