PARKING CONCERNS

Beaux Arts’ narrow streets are just one of the charming characteristics of the Village that occasionally trigger concerns, particularly when it comes to parking. The Town has been receiving complaints both about construction vehicles parking on Town rights-of-way and the sheer number of residents’ vehicles parked along the right-of-way in areas of Town.

Residents are reminded that the Town’s parking rules serve first and foremost to maximize safety for vehicles using the roads, especially emergency vehicles, e.g. fire trucks. The full text of those rules can be found at HERE.

Of particular importance are:

  • Three of the ten listed areas where parking is NOT allowed:

(a) On the paved portion of any street in such a manner or under such conditions as to leave less than 10 feet of the width of the roadway for free movement of vehicular traffic.

(b) In front of a private driveway.

(c) Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.

  • The primary rule for vehicles belonging to residents and their family members:

(2) Vehicles that are owned by a resident shall be parked on that resident’s private property. If this is not possible, these vehicles may be parked on the town right-of-way portion of the driveway, as long as line-of-sight is not impaired.

We ask residents to be mindful of the Town’s parking rules and the impact that vehicles parked along the rights-of-way may have, whether personal vehicles or vehicles belonging to contractors working on their behalf.

COUNCIL BUSINESS

The Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday April 15th to discuss/act on the following:

  • Middle Housing: Town Planner Stacia Schroeder reviewed the minor updates made after the Council’s first brief review at their March meeting. Town Attorney Linehan advised the Council on how to enact the proposed changes into existing code sections. The Council then reviewed the draft materials and recommended revisions to several sections as well as a reorganization of the material per the Town Attorney’s comments. They will hold a second public hearing on this topic at the May 13th Council meeting.
  • Bellevue Franchise: Mayor Howes and Councilmember Stowe updated the Council on the status of negotiations with City of Bellevue.

Next Council meeting will be Tuesday May 13th at Councilmember Stowe’s house.
