A message from CECMP Director, Neva Bandelow

It’s May and the school year is winding down. It has been a time of learning, growing, rebooting, and one filled with new opportunities for relationships to build.
“Thank you” does not seem adequate to express my appreciation for all that you do to carry the Mentor Program into this post-Covid-19 reality. You have remained solid, determined and dedicated. While we have lost some of our grounding during the Pandemic, we are building new bridges and finding our path. Because of you, we, the State Office continues to strengthen our program and incorporate the suggestions and feedback that make our program so successful since 1988!
I heard a funny little meme about why the Month is named May. “It May rain, it May be sunny,” it is a fickle month. One thing is true, you are not fickle. Your advocacy and wisdom is unwavering.
Many of you already heard that CDSS is extending our contract for three years (based on continued funding. as grants go). They believe in our Mission, Values and Goals. So let us move into the next school year with a sense of pride and accomplishment. Please remember to complete reporting and reimbursement deadlines. We will be here during the summer. For those of you who will enjoy the summer off, it is well deserved. Our final newsletter of the school year will be out in June with critical information. Be on the lookout.
And I can’t sign off without wishing Brooke congratulation on completing her Master’s Degree from Erickson. Well done Brooke~
Until then, be well.
Neva

Quarterly Coordinator Meeting
|
|
Over 50 Coordinators joined us on April 28th for our last Coordinator Meeting of the program year! CECMP staff provided updates to the program, shared on our most recent College visits, and welcomed Krista Murphy from WestEd to share resources on Family Child Care at its Best and PDG-R funded CECO modules.
|
|
We even got to surprise our own Brooke Giesen, CECMP Assistant Director, with a celebration send off where Coordinators, Director Mentors, and Mentor Teachers shared thoughtful words of how she has not only impacted the CECMP in a positive way, but also impacted them. Brooke would love to stay in touch, please feel free to reach out to her on her personal email, brookegiesen0@gmail.com.
Were not able to attend our meeting? Be sure to check your email! A recording of the meeting, as well as a copy of the presentation was emailed out to Coordinators on May 9th.

You hopefully saw that NAEYC’s Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) book has been critiqued as “too woke” in Alabama.
We felt this was an appropriate time to link you to learn more about DAP, the book and to explore their resources.
