A Message from the Mayor
May Update
| | |
Spring is a time of renewal, and there’s a real sense of momentum building across Greater Sudbury.
On May 1, I had the honour of delivering this year’s State of the City Address. It was an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come, the progress we’ve made together and the ambitious path we’re charting for the future. You can read my speech here: greatersudbury.ca/city-hall/mayor-and-council/mayor/in-the-community-and-media/.
Whether it’s attracting global investment in our critical minerals sector, securing historic funding for housing and water infrastructure or welcoming new film productions, Greater Sudbury is building confidence at home and abroad. And we’re doing it together with purpose, unity and pride.
From the 2,600 new housing units approved by City Council to the return of WestJet service and launch of the Rural and Francophone immigration programs, our city is growing. Thanks to continued partnerships with Indigenous communities, industry leaders and all levels of government, we’re creating jobs, attracting talent, and ensuring our prosperity is inclusive and sustainable.
Most of all, we are showing what’s possible when we come together with a shared commitment to making Greater Sudbury a place where everyone belongs, and everyone can thrive.
Thank you for all that you do to make our community stronger. Let’s keep building, together.
Mayor Paul Lefebvre
City of Greater Sudbury
| | Outdoor Court Revitalization | | |
We are seeking the community’s input as work continues to restore outdoor tennis and basketball courts. Investing in Canada’s Infrastructure Program funding will support the revitalization of 28 courts across the community over the next several years.
We want to hear from residents about the revitalization of these sites to ensure they are designed to meet the needs of local neighbourhoods and communities. The community is invited to participate in public consultation sessions and complete a survey before May 9.
For more information or to fill out the survey, call 311 or visit overtoyou.greatersudbury.ca/copy-outdoor-court-revitalization.

Meet Dottie!
Dottie is a sweet and shy two-year-old American Bulldog mix looking for her forever home! She is a medium-energy dog who enjoys spending time with her people, whether it’s lounging on the couch or going for a walk. While she may initially be a little reserved, she’s a loving companion who just needs some time and patience to build her confidence.
Dottie has had both positive and not-so-ideal interactions with other dogs, so we’re recommending a slow and thorough introduction to assure a good match. A dog meet-and-greet is required before adoption. With a little guidance, Dottie can learn to trust and thrive with a confident companion by her side.
If you’re an experienced dog owner who’s looking for a sweet, loyal dog to help come out of her shell, Dottie could be the perfect fit for you! Please call us at 705-694-7387 or apply online.
| | Street Sweeping Status Map | | |
We have launched a new interactive street sweeping status map that tracks spring cleanup progress and provides projected schedules and regular updates. To view the map, visit greatersudbury.ca/sweepingmap.
To help crews work efficiently:
- Avoid overnight on-street parking.
- Remove basketball and hockey nets from the roadway.
- Do not place garbage, recycling or green carts on roads or sidewalks. Instead, place them in a visible area that does not block sweepers.
- Do not put leaves, grass or other debris on roads or sidewalks.
- Sweep sand from your driveway or yard into a thin layer on the road if needed, to avoid clogging equipment.
Sweeping is expected to expand city-wide by mid May. Line painting begins after street sweeping is complete to ensure clean surfaces for optimal paint adhesion and visibility.
