-It's Almost May Day-
May 1st is the halfway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. The roots of 'May Day' are in agriculture. Springtime festivities filled with song and dance celebrated the sown fields starting to sprout. Cattle were driven to pasture, special bonfires were lit, and doors of houses as well as livestock were decorated with yellow May flowers. Tall poles (Maypoles) were wrapped in colorful ribbon to dance around as May Day Parades took to the streets.
Of course, it wouldn't be May Day without the anonymous gifting of May Day baskets. We have a store full of specialty items perfect for filling baskets! If you're looking for something small yet special, we have it all: canned & bottled 'splits' of wine, little pre-batched cocktails, 375ml craft spirits, bitters, garnishes, and more!
Field Recordings Cellar Event
Wednesday, May 10th
6:30 p.m.
$30 ticket includes $20 credit towards Field Recording wines!

Join us in our cellar for an intimate tasting with one of California's most beloved winemakers, the king of affordable organic wine, Andrew Jones. He's the mastermind behind Field Recordings, Alloy Wine Works, Wonderwall and The Fablist! He just might be the "busiest man on the Central Coast" and several of his wines grace our shelves due to their great value and quality. It seems like anything Andrew makes fits both the flavor profile and price our customers are seeking.

Featured Spirit : Brother Justus
"American Single Malt can really be whatever a distiller makes of it. The lack of formal rules & definitions might sometimes be confusing, but it opens up a world of possibility for a distiller. Brother Justus, local to Minneapolis, produces only single malt whiskies from Minnesota ingredients (including peat, for their unique cold-peated expression), and we're excited to see them grow. This is the first batch of whiskey produced on the 1000-gallon still they installed in April of 2021, named Brigid for the Irish saint who turned a lake into beer. This whiskey is a unique fruit-and-spice driven croissant in a glass. We also have just a few bottles left of two of our barrel picks - get them while you can! Catch Jonathan Janssen at the shop pouring their whole line next month, May 18th from 5-8pm."

2021 Groundwork Clairette Blanc - $24.99
Putting to use the empirical knowledge he gained from making wine for his Sans Liege and The Fableist Projects, winemaker Curt Schalchlin brings his magic touch to a new collection of wines that focus on grapes of the Rhône, grown in California with Groundwork. Clairette Blanche was once a widely-planted grape in Southern France, but just a miniscule amount is grown in Paso Robles. This expression is juicy and delicious with hints of peach, apple and nectarine. Unfined, unfiltered and native yeasts are used for fermentation. This beauty pairs with salmon terrine, grilled sardines, and Vietnamese spring rolls!

2021 Cieck, Erbaluce di Caluso, DOCG - $21.99
The ancient Italian Erbaluce grape makes one of the most stunning white wines you've never heard of. It is so popular in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy and so limited in production that it's extremely hard to find here, stateside. Erbaluce means "dawn light". It describes the bright copper color the grapes assume as the sun hits them on traditional pergola-trained vines. Cieck was founded in 1985 by Remo Falconieri, who is a recognized master of this very old grape variety. Now in his 80s, his daughter Lia runs the small family vineyard, alongside winemaker Domenico Caretto, under her father's watchful eye. These 40 to 50 year old vines grow in the mineral rich glacial soils of the cool Alto Piemonte region of Canvese. The harvest is pressed whole-cluster in order to preserve ripe fruit notes. Stems, skins, and seeds are removed immediately after pressing. Cold fermentation is employed to capture the unique aromatics of this grape. Finally, the wine is aged a couple of months on the lees in stainless steel vats without undergoing malo-lactic fermentation. The result is an aromatic wine of nectarine, green apple, beeswax, white flowers, and lemon zest. The palate is beautifully balanced between stone fruit, citrus, honey, and vibrant acidity. The finish is crisp and delicious. You will simply sigh with each and every sip.

2021 Tyrrell's Semillon - $26.99
The Tyrrell family has produced exceptional wines in the Hunter Valley in Australia since the late 19th century. Their dry Semillon is one of the most lauded, ageworthy white wines that Australia offers and is a standard bearer for the Semillon varietal. Great dry Semillon shows a rich, waxy texture balanced with great acidity. The nose of this release shows honeysuckle and green apple. The creamy medium bodied palate has notes of melon, lemon oil, and mineral with excellent acid balance. Enjoy this wine with garlic and lemon butter trout and grilled vegetables in the sun.

2021 Union Sacre ‘Oasis Vineyard’ Pinot Gris - $27.99
Made in the now popular ‘dragone ramato’ style, this wine displays a rose- like red hue. However, the 20 hours of skin contact does not yield as much spice as you might expect. Instead, the slightly reductive/ flinty nose eventually gives way to green apple and pear aromas framed by lifted grapefruit and lemon citrus. The body of the wine shows a bit more ripeness with some plushness leading the way with its weighty texture and hints of sweet orchard fruit before turning back to a dense and lingering saline and lemon dominated finish. Like most quality wines of this type, it veers close to the edges of style and comes out whole and better for the adventure.
