May 2017: What's New
Encompass Selected as Neurodevelopmental Center by Washington Department of Health
We are thrilled to announce that the Washington State Department of Health has designated Encompass as a  Neurodevelopmental Center  (NDC), the first in the Snoqualmie Valley and one of only 19 in the state. An NDC is a provider of outreach, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and specialized therapies for children with neuromuscular or developmental disorders.
This is exciting news for our community, as Encompass will be able to more easily help young children with special needs access a spectrum of services, such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, augmented communication, and physical therapies, as well as nutrition, social work, and educational services.
One Fish, Two Fish...
On April 24th, the North Bend and Carnation Encompass preschool classes went to the Seattle Aquarium.

The children enjoyed their day using a one finger touch in the touch tank (pictured left), looking at the many different fish, and watching the diver feed and talk about the different animals in the tank.

They found Nemo AND Dory!

The Power of Play Dough
by Lynne Creed, PCHP Manager
Play dough is one of the toys the Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) uses to show families ways to make learning engaging and fun and strengthen the parent-child relationship.

Using play dough encourages open-ended creative play where language development, social and emotional skills, and math skills can work in harmony together.

Making balls, snakes, and rolling the dough out flat also helps children build fine motor skills that they will need for writing, drawing, and using scissors.

A Mysterious Rock
A painted rock appeared in one of the planters outside our Pediatric Therapy Clinic... Try to find it next time you're there!

The rock was placed by a family who has participated in Encompass services in the past as part of the Snoqualmie Valley Rocks project. Learn more here about the Kindness Rocks movement.

New "Parent Talks" Bring the Conversation to a Library Near You
We are excited to announce Parent Talks, a series of informal conversations around parenting and raising young children. Parent talks will be hosted at different branches of King County Library System (KCLS) in the Snoqualmie Valley April 25th through June 15th.

Each week, the facilitator will lead an informal discussion on a prearranged topic like positive discipline, screen time, picky eating, or executive functioning skills. Join us to learn, share, and get to know fellow parents who are going through the same things as you and your family.

Children are welcome and no preregistration is required—join us for one or all sessions and let’s talk!
Inaugural Rise & Thrive Breakfast Draws Large Crowd
Close to 250 people came out for our first-ever Rise & Thrive Breakfast on April 25th. Guests had the opportunity to view the brand-new Encompass Mobile Therapy Unit and listen to inspiring speakers talk about the importance of early intervention in diagnosing and treating children with special needs.

Local government was well-represented at the event: King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert, City of North Bend Mayor Ken Hearing and Councilmembers Jonathan Rosen, Brenden Elwood, and Jeanne Pettersen, and City of Snoqualmie Mayor Matt Larson and Councilmembers Brad Toft and Katherine Ross.

KPMG Donates Supplies to Parent-Child Home Program
KPMG LLP donated a massive load of toys and books for our Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) last month. Gina Carlson, a former Encompass employee who now works for KPMG, suggested Encompass as a nonprofit her company should support. KPMG listened, and we were fortunate enough to receive a donation of much-needed supplies for PCHP.

Thank you Gina and KPMG!
PostModern Purple Donates 10% of Kids' Party Proceeds to Encompass
Renee Britz, one of the artists participating in Take a Seat for Kids, owns PostModern Purple, a local business that offers art parties for adults and children.

To thank Encompass for the services they provided to her family, Britz has offered to donate 10% of her sales from children's art parties back to Encompass.

Thank you, Renee, for your generosity!
Volunteers Give Early Learning Center Spring Cleaning
Volunteers from Cascade Covenant Church helped beautify our Early Learning Center campus by  moving play chips, weeding the garden and plant beds, and cleaning up the parking lot.

Thank you, Cascade Covenant Church!
Encompass Receives Grant Funding for CHERISH and Mobile Therapy Unit
In April, the Kawabe Memorial Fund granted $3,000 to Encompass for our CHERISH (Children Encouraged by Relationships In Secure Homes) Program, which supports the unique needs of children in foster care.

In addition, we received a $1,500 grant from the Harrington-Schiff Foundation to help fund our new Mobile Therapy Unit.

We are grateful to both of these foundations for their support!
