NIA Advocates for Federal and State Action on Building Codes
NIA Calls on Biden Administration to Act Now to Improve Building Code Adoption
NIA joined 18 other industry and consumer organizations calling on the Biden administration to take executive action to update all federal programs that reference building energy codes for compliance to the current ASHRAE 90.1-2019/2021 IECC. If successful, the impact on new commercial and residential construction would be substantial in reducing greenhouse gases and increasing building resiliency. Building Awareness of Robust State-Level Building Energy Codes
NIA and our partner organizations are working together to alert governors' offices across the country for the adoption of more robust building energy codes. Part of this plan involves alerting the state administrations to the existing processes and authority in their state. For example, NIA and our partners asked Illinois Deputy Governor Mitchell to actively support a clean or unamended adoption of the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). We hope the 2021 IECC review and adoption process provides an opportunity to delete weakening amendments in the current code for both residential and commercial buildings. Click here to read more.
