CHARITIES

During May, we are accepting donations for the Marine Corps Family Support Community, a non-profit 501c3 organization that started in 2001. The organization was started by a Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran and parents of Marines deployed to Afghanistan and later Iraq. They support our troops by sending Care Packages to all branches of the military. They have kept the original name because that is the name on their 501c3 application.

The website is marinecorpsfamilysc.org and a Facebook page @ Marine Corps Family Support Community.

The post office charges about $16.25 for medium boxes, so they also are very appreciative of monetary donations to help with postage.

There is a general supply list on their website, but they have recently taken inventory and are in need of the following items. They also have recently added a large group of female Marines to their Care Package list, so there are many female items needed.

Travel tissue packets
Cotton round make-up removal pads in a tube (Dollar Tree has these)
Bath sponges
Deodorant - Male
Antiperspirant - Female
Tampons
Mini Pads
Bobby Pins - Black/Brown
Foot Powder
Disposable Razors - Female and Male

2022-23 ELECTION | MEET THOSE RUNNING FOR OFFICE
The May meeting and Election of Officers is Sunday, May 15, voting is from 12:30-1:30 p.m., the meeting begins @ 1:15 p.m.
I am the daughter of Suzanne Longenbaker who belonged to the Daughter's of Erin more than 20 years ago.
My sister Nancy Longenbaker and I joined the Daughters of Erin in 2001 and have been active since then. Nancy and I have coordinated and organized the fundraising table since 2003. Since then, I have served as a Board Member, Parliamentarian and Vice President. I was Member of the Year in 2008, Irish Woman of the Year in 2013 and have assisted with many events over the years. Thank you to everyone as we work together with a commitment to our charities and Irish culture.
Thank you for your vote for me for President of the Daughters of Erin.
Sharon Tantes
Hello, my name is Becky Ellis. I’m currently the Secretary on the Board.
Over the years I have served in many capacities beginning as Hospitality Chair, Secretary and President. As you can see, I seem to have skipped serving as Vice President and would like to rectify that now. I have chaired or volunteered for many of the DOE activities including the Irish Breakfast, Christmas dinner, Tea Rooms at both the DIF and the Summer Feis, Golf Outing and many more.
My past Board and volunteer experiences have left me with a unique understanding the organization and all it’s parts. I bring that history with me when helping make decisions that effect the organization.
I also discovered how tight the Irish community is and why the DOE and the people I have met and become friends with have meant so much to me. Please vote for me so I can continue to serve the DOE.
Thank You, Becky Ellis
I have been asked to run for the secretary position. I have been a member of the DOE since 2016. I was a Board of Director member in 2017. I was then secretary from 2018-2020. I enjoyed the position and having the opportunity to work with the other Irish groups.
These past two years I have been on the Hospitality Committee with Patty Archer. Due to Covid our only large event was the Christmas Luncheon in 2021.
I have volunteered for the Children's Christmas party, the Easter Egg Hunt, the Dublin Tea Room and the Irish Breakfast.
I am happy to be serving as the secretary again to help our organization.
Thank you for your consideration,
Peggy O'Neil Arnold
My name is Mary Enright Freimark . My father was a charter member of the Shamrock Club Pipes and Drums Corps and I am proud to say I grew up in the Irish Community. I worked in government for 31 years and am enjoying retirement. I grew up and currently live in Clintonville. I am happily married and together my husband Ryan and I have a blended family of five grown children. I love OSU football, traveling and entertaining for family and friends. I have been active withing with Cheryl Costello and Peggy Shanahan on the Bowling Extravaganza the last four years and the annual adopted families. I love the Irish community and I am glad my parents got me involved from a young age. The Daughters of Erin have been very generous to my daughter Anna, and I would like to have the opportunity to give back to the organization.
Thank you for your vote.
Mary Enright Freimark
I am originally from Weirton, West Virginia where I grew up with parents, my older brother and younger sister. After graduating college, I moved to Cambridge, Ohio to begin my career in Education. I taught English IV, Speech, and Journalism for 15 years. After earning my Masters in Guidance and Counseling, I became the Junior/Senior Guidance Counselor. I finished my career by teaching at Zane State College in Zanesville, Ohio.
As I began my career in public Education, I became very quickly aware that not all my students were fortunate enough to have the love, support, and opportunities I experienced growing up. This was one of the motivations for earning my masters in Guidance and Counseling. I became a member of our county organization called the Council for Coordinated Services which put together a treatment plan to provide wrap around services, rather than overlapping services, for children and parents in need.
This is one of the reasons I joined the Daughters of Erin. I am so happy to be involved in an organization that provides for those in need through our charities, and also provides scholarships.
My husband Tim and I moved to Columbus in 2016 to be closer to his transplant center and to take advantage of all the cultural and social activities the city has to offer. Our son and his wife live in Roswell, Georgia and we visit them often.
Thank you for your vote.

My name is Sharon Selby and I am running for Board Delegate of the Daughters of Erin. I am a widow since 2006 after being married for 30 years. My husband Jim was a dedicated Shamrock Club member. I have four children and 12 beautiful grandchildren ages two to 21. My oldest daughter was an Irish dancer for many years with Ann Richens and now my five-year-old granddaughters is taking Irish Dance with the Millennium Academy. I am a member of St. Joan of Arc parish in Powell and was a member of St. Anthony parish for more than 25 years. My children attended St. Anthony school, DeSales and St. Charles. I worked over 20 years in Retail Management and started a new career in real estate after my husband passed away. I am with Cutler Real Estate in historic Dublin.
The Daughters of Erin is a wonderful, loving organization. I have found everyone to be so generous with their time and talents. I enjoy being part of this organization and look forward to a lifelong fellowship. I served as Vice President from 2012-14 and want to keep active with the Board. I served with Peggy McCathran doing Hospitality and worked various events including the Irish Tea Room, Irish Breakfast, stuffing Easter Eggs, selling badges, raffle tickets and more. I appreciate your support and will do my best as a Board Delegate.
Thank you for your vote.

PATIENT FIGHTING BLOOD DISEASES

From Kelly Hetrick, for Patricia Shay. For patients fighting blood diseases, such as leukemia, a stem-cell transplant may be their only cure.

My sister-in-law's friend, Patricia (Trish) Shay, is in need of a stem-cell transplant for a rare form of bone marrow cancer called myelofibrosis.

Trish is being treated at the James at OSU and they are having a hard time finding a match for her. Usually siblings are the best match, but her siblings have passed on. Trish is asking for anyone between the ages of 18-40 and of Irish ancestry to register for a test kit and do a DNA swab. If you match Trish, you would be asked if you want to donate some blood to her to replace her immune system. Trish is also asking for your prayers, and she sends her thanks in advance to all willing to test for her with the hopes of saving her life.

To get tested, go to Be The Match at bethematch.org and register to get a test kit mailed to you. The kit contains a swab you will use to swab the inside of your cheeks, which you will then return to Be The Match. Please be sure to include Trish's name (Patricia Shay) on the paperwork you send back with the swab. (The process is similar to that of ancestry.com).

Please note that the registry is listed as the bone marrow registry under "Support the Cause." This is the registry you will join, even though Trish is in need of stem cells, not bone marrow.

Trish is an OSU grad, attends St. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in West Jefferson, and has been active in the Irish community, as her children have all danced for Regan-Rankin-Holland Irish Dance (the group who dances each year at the Irish Breakfast).

If you have questions, please contact me at kellykennedyhetrick@gmail.com.

God bless and love to all!
Member Kelly Kennedy Hetrick
