Career Corner

Make the most of your summer through networking, informational interviews, and micro-internships.

Take time this summer to grow your professional network. Networking through informational interviews and connecting with mentors is a fantastic way to gain insights and learn from professionals in your desired industry. Informational interviews are casual conversations that allow you to ask questions about a particular field or job role, while mentors can provide guidance and support throughout your career journey. Activate your account on WashU CNX (“connects”) to find WashU alumni and build your network.

You can also explore industries and careers through micro-internships. These short-term, project-based experiences provide a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world skills and explore different career paths. Micro-internships are particularly beneficial if you do not have the flexibility for a traditional long-term internship during the summer. They can be completed remotely, making them accessible and versatile. WashU partners with Parker Dewey to connect students with micro-internship experiences.

Still have questions or want to learn more? You can schedule a virtual career coaching appointment with the Center for Career Engagement's career coaches, who are available all summer and are here to help.
