The 2023 Virtual Annual Public Meeting

Thank you to everyone who joined the Fort McMurray Airport Authority’s (FMAA) 2023 Virtual Annual Public Meeting on May 4. The meeting updated stakeholders in the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region on FMAA’s 2022 performance and highlighted key activities for the remainder of 2023. The 2022 Annual Report is now available on our website.

The 2022 ASQ Awards Celebration for Team YMM

Team YMM celebrated the Airports Council International's recognition of three 2022 Airport Service Quality Awards with the Fort McMurray Airport Authority (FMAA)'s banner reveal on the Departures Level on April 14.

"The three awards we've won signify that our passengers recognize our efforts and appreciate them," FMAA President and CEO Denean Robinson shared during the event. "I am extremely proud of everyone on Team YMM for being part of this major accomplishment."

FMAA at the Alberta Aviation Council Conference

Fort McMurray Airport Authority's Cuyler Green, Vice President of Operations & Infrastructure, and Jeff Vader, FMAA Airport Maintenance Manager, attended the Alberta Aviation Council Conference last month in Edmonton. 



The conference brought aviation industry professionals together to learn and share best practices. Cuyler was one of the Airports 2023 and Beyond panelists, along with Steve Maybee, Edmonton International Airport, Chris Miles, YYC Calgary International Airport and Wendy McArthur, Wetaskiwin Regional Airport.

NorthWord Magazine Launches Issue 27 at YMM

The Northern Canada Collective Society of Writers brought the community together to celebrate the launch of NorthWord Magazine's 27 Issue - Intensity, guest edited by Arts Council Wood Buffalo's President Scott Meller in the Observation Area at the Fort McMurray International Airport on April 30.

The local literary magazine is published bi-annually and features artists from across Canada and the globe. Magazines are available on newsstands at Level 2 - Departures and on the airside. 

United Way Recognizes Philanthropy at Because of You Event

The United Way Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo celebrated individuals and organizations with its annual Because of You event at the Shell Place Diamond Ballroom on April 27. The event recognizes those who help generate positive change within the region through philanthropy in time and contributions towards the local social profit. The Fort McMurray International Airport received the Brilliant Beginnings Award. Congratulations to all of the recipients and nominees. 

Tim Hortons Receives Platinum Award

The Tim Hortons location at the Fort McMurray International Airport recently received the 2022 Platinum Award for its service excellence and the highest number of sales in the region in the Non-Drive Thru Restaurant category. The awards honour the top 3% of restaurants per region. The Fort McMurray Airport Authority sends its congratulations to the entire team.

Team YMM Spotlight on Minette Valdez

The Fort McMurray Airport Authority welcomed its newest employee Minette Valdez on March 20. Minette has called Fort McMurray home since February 2016 after moving to the city from Bangui, Ilocos Norte, in the Philippines. 

She shared how her hometown is iconic in Southeast Asia for having the first windmills. Seven years following the move, she graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic High School and obtained a Business Administration - Accounting diploma from Keyano College in 2021.



When asked how she’s enjoying the first weeks of working as FMAA's Office Assistant, Minette shared: “I love the people. Everyone is really nice. I always look forward to coming to work every day because of its environment." Welcome to the team, Minette!
