May 2016
Greetings!

We ended April with a bang last weekend at our Run for Reading, which raised over $5800.00 for library programming.  Thank you to our generous sponsors, our wonderful volunteers, and the more than 140 runners and walkers who enjoyed a beautiful morning at Jacobsburg Park!

We have so many events and programs to offer you in May.  Visit the library on May 7 for a book signing of History Bites - a short collection of Nazareth history tidbits.  Ready to start your garden?  On Fridays and Saturdays in May, we will be hosting a plant exchange - bring your extra seedlings, or come to pick up new-to-you plants at the library!

We have two book clubs this month - the library is hosting an adult book club in addition to the Nazareth Book Club's monthly meeting.  Children's story times will be transformed into musical musings during the fourth week in May - stop in for a real lyrical treat!

Spring means more time in the sun, and thoughts of spring cleaning.  We have programs addressing both of these timely topics: Easton Hospital will be presenting a program on skin cancer; and we are excited to have Jamie Novak, author of Keep This, Toss That, coming to speak later in the month.

We hope to see you in the library this month at one of our many programs, or just browsing the shelves for books, DVDs, plants and more!

Sincerely,

The Memorial Library of Nazareth & Vicinity Staff

Finding Loving Homes for Surplus Plants
Planting a garden and find that you don't have room for that extra zucchini plant? Or, landscaping your flower bed and discover that it's time to thin out the hostas? Don't throw them away! Bring all of your extra plants (please label them) to the Library on Fridays and Saturdays during the month of May and hopefully the plants will find a new home in another Library member's garden or flower bed.

New gardener? This is the perfect opportunity to discover your "green thumb." The Library has a large collection of gardening and landscaping books. Plus, there are several members on the Library Staff who are experienced gardeners. Let's experiment!

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month
Did you know that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime? And that melanoma accounts for up to three percent of all pediatric cancers? The Easton Hospital will present an informational program on skin care at our library on Wednesday, May 18th, 6:30 pm.  Please call the Library at 610-759-4932 to register for this program.
Adult Book Club: Margot
What if Anne Frank's sister Margot, instead of dying in Auschwitz, had survived and gone into hiding in America? How will the public release of Anne's diary affect Margot's life? Margot by Jillian Cantor is the book that will be discussed at the Library's Adult Book Club on Friday, May 20th at 10:30 am. Limit 12 copies. Sign-up at the Circulation Desk to receive a copy of this "what if" book and be part of the Adult Book Club.
Get Organized!
