FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Greetings to Our Hub on Canal Supporters

In most years, Hub activities are beginning to ebb a bit by the time May rolls around. That's not the case this year. In addition to our usual Kentucky Derby-related fun on 1st Saturday, there are two major events in May that cry out to be highlighted. I'd first like to call your attention to our Razzle Dazzle Fashion Event at the Brannon Center on Sunday, May 19 (see details below).  Razzle Dazzle is the culmination of the school-year-long fashion club that is a joint project between The Hub and the City of NSB. The kids in this club have worked hard, and with passion and enthusiasm, to learn all aspects of the fashion business. The outfits they ultimately designed and created, and that you'll see at Razzle Dazzle, are just the outward signs of what the kids did. What you won't see, except on their faces, is the sense of accomplishment they've achieved, and the invaluable life lesson they learned about hard work, dedication and perseverance leading to success. Please consider buying a pair of tickets and supporting these young people. Proceeds from the event primarily fund next year's After School Fashion Club. I hope to see you there.

Later in the month, on Sunday, May 26, The Hub is hosting a bash celebrating our veterans called The Hub and Our Heroes. The Hub will close early that day at noon, and then reopen at 1:30 for the event, which runs from 2-6pm.

There will be plenty of food, drink and fun but music ties this event together. All ticket proceeds go directly to the local chapter of Guitars4Vets. G4V utilizes the power of music therapy to help veterans recover and reconnect. Veterans participate in G4V at no cost and can earn a free guitar. In keeping with the music theme, the Heroes event will feature 6 bands. Come early because you'll want to rock the afternoon away.
Finally, Project Magnolia is beginning to reveal itself. You'll recall that Project Magnolia is the name we've given to the re-imagination of The Hub's Magnolia Street facade. The paint is starting to go on the wall and our mural is beginning to emerge. If you drive down Magnolia frequently, you're likely to see Hub artist and local art teacher Steve Hardock working on his creation.

There's an opportunity for you to get in on the painting action. This wonderful mural will be on the west side of The Hub, but we believe it belongs to the community. To that end we are planning a Project Magnolia Community Day on Saturday, May 18 from 10am to noon. Steve will be there to help those who wish to contribute add a few brushstrokes to this new stop on the NSB highlight tour-it might be especially fun for the kids. There'll be drinks and treats and a festive atmosphere.

Richard England, President

The Brannon Center
Join us for a NYC style fashion show featuring seven up and coming new designers from the New Smyrna Beach After School Fashion Club, a community outreach program sponsored by the City of New Smyrna Beach and The Hub on Canal. The fashion event will include a New York style runway, techno music, radio host Kaylee from 103.3 The Vibe, free activities, and local business participation.

The Fashion Club is our most important new Outreach program and proceeds from the event will allow us to expand the program next year. The Hub has a wonderful track record of taking a great program and making it even better in each successive year. We aim to do that again but we need your help.

Please support these young people and provide a base of support for next year’s new crop of
designers by buying a ticket or 2 for Razzle Dazzle. Bring some friends. Talk it up. You’ll enjoy the
fashion show but you’ll feel even better knowing that you helped make a difference in a young person’s life.
