Thank You Amerigroup for sponsoring
UCC's Senior Services
“Through the decades, UCC has been on the ground fighting against poverty and the systems that create it, the agency has always sought out community partners who share our common mission to strengthen an already strong community, Amerigroup is a perfect partner for our agency and the city”
- Craig Mainor, UCC Executive Director
Congratulations Maria !!!
We are so proud and honored to share the great news that one of our own, Maria Torres, was awarded the Russ Berry Making A Difference Award! Maria has been extremely helpful, resourceful and an overall force to be seen during the recent pandemic.

She has been able to scale our food pantry services to numbers that are way beyond anything that I would have thought possible. She remained focus on the mission of our agency through her own personal struggles and major challenge of the pandemic. I stand in awe at her dedication.
In the past 10 months, she and her staff have organized, prepared, and distributed more than 150,000 meals to some of Newark's most vulnerable residents. Those numbers are unreal but provably REAL! The folks at the Russell Berrie Foundation (Ramapo College) have presented her with these amazing awards and I am so happy for her.

Please join me, and congratulate Ms. Torres for her hard work and dedication to the community in which we all serve.
UCC Is Here To Help
Newark Hope Village
What we decided to do was envision some new way that’s less shelter-ish, but more of a home for the community that had already established themselves down at Penn Station,” says United Community Corporation Executive Director, Craig Mainor.

A Huge Thank You !

To all those who spring cleaned and donated items to be distributed to those in need. The outpouring of donations is a powerful testament to the heart of community. The #BKind was able to provide an abundance of resources to individuals in need thanks to community donations, guest speakers, the UCC Board of Directors and the support of local agencies, such as the Essex County Prosecutor's Office - Office of Victim-Witness Advocacy - Pamela McCauley, South Ward Councilman John Sharpe James, the Newark Police Explorers program-4th Precinct - Detective Moore (guest speaker), Precious Little Ladies - Aziz Kibibi (guest speaker), the Essex County Prosecutors Office, the Shani Baraka Center, Amerigroup, Beauty for Ashes, the Newark Department of Public Safety.

UCC will continue to giveaway the items donated to individuals and families in need.

Our Annual Initiative
#BKind Community Giveaway

April 24, 2021, UCC hosted what is now our annual initiative. The #BKind event, in loving memory of our late Board Member and community leader, Pastor Veronice Horne, was held during National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW) at West Side Park Community Center located in Newark. This event included free groceries, clothing and household items to those in need as well as words of empowerment from survivors of crime and local informational resources.

Since 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) is a time to renew our commitment to serving all victims of crime, to acknowledge the achievements in victim services and allied professions, to honor those who have gone above and beyond in their service to others, and to remember crime victims and survivors.
A Special Thank You to our Guest Speakers:

Aziza Kabibi
Pamela McCauley
Councilman John Sharpe James
Detective Robert Moore

Housing Assistance
Under New Jersey's eviction moratorium, landlords can still jump-start the eviction process and be ready to kick out non-paying tenants the day the moratorium ends. It will expire two months after the end of the state's “public health emergency,” a period that Murphy continually renews each month. As a tenant or home owner you can begin preparing for this process.
