Plant Sale
The 45th Annual
Jeff Feagin Memorial Plant Sale
Saturday, May 4
Noon to 3:00pm

The Annual Jeff Feagin Memorial Plant Sale has something for everyone! Incredible outdoor décor-- yard art, ceramic pots, and plant hangers from sophisticated to kitsch. Over 2,400 shrubs, perennials, and vegetable starts, are begging to be planted. Join us at the Nichols Center on Saturday, May 4, at noon to get the best deals in plants this side of the mountain. The sale ends at 3pm so get there early. (hint- there's usually a long line before the doors open at noon!)

Your island garden clubs look forward to seeing everyone on plant sale day. And remember, the proceeds go toward helping Fox Island organizations, and most importantly, the garden clubs award college scholarships to area high school seniors.
May Ballroom Dance Classes
Last chance for dance lessons until fall! May lessons are $40 for the full month (no individual classes offered). Learn the Foxtrot, Tango, Waltz, and 2-Step, along with the fundamentals. The 5th Wednesday of May will be a dance party to practice all we have learned! Here are the details:

  • 50 minute beginner basic lessons
  • Held weekly at the Nichols Community Center
  • Wednesday evenings at 5:00pm
  • Group Classes with rotating partners so that individuals may attend solo.
  • You do not have to have a spouse to attend or miss a class if someone you normally come with is unable to attend.
  • There does not need to be an even number of students.
  • Sign up online at ficra.org now! Click here. You do not need a Paypal account to register, just a credit card.
Our Instructor:
Aubrey Preston is a resident of Gig Harbor. She started working as a Professional Ballroom Dancer with Arthur Murray in 2006 where she acquired the skills to both teach and perform in the various different partner dances. She also has her own business as a Music Education teacher, allowing her to combine her love for children, music and dancing all in one.

Emergency Planning Updates

Have you checked the video out? The first video (just 3 minutes!) in a series of videos on Fox Island's Emergency Preparedness Team and what they are doing to help make you safe in the event of a major catastrophe, is ready for viewing. Click here to view the first video. You can also go to ficra.org to find this and other videos under "Emergency Planning." Send any questions on the video content, and what you would like to see, to info@ficra.org. We plan to make a new video every other month, or so to answer your questions on Emergency Preparation.

EVERYONE should be on the Pierce County's ALERT SYSTEM!  GET ON IT! It is easy to do and you can get alerts for major road closures and catastrophic events on any-or-all of your computers, cell phones, and e-mail - you pick. Your Emergency Preparedness Team needs every household to be signed up to help with responding to a serious event. For more information and to register please visit www.co.pierce.wa.us/921/Pierce-County-ALERT.
Attention Boaters!
Boating season is underway. Have you considered volunteering to help in an emergency? In the event of the bridge being unusable, the Emergency Response Team may need some help transporting persons or supplies in a serious need situation. Contact us at info@ficra.org to be on the possible help list. Thanks!
Fox Island Amateur Radio Club (FIARC)

The Fox Island Amateur Radio Club (FIARC) is growing! We send out meeting minutes and news in our newsletter. If you are interested in seeing that newsletter, send your e-mail address to Secretary Jim Braden at jandcbraden@aol.com. You are welcome to join FIARC whether you are a current HAM operator or not. Those interested in joining FIARC, please e-mail us at info@ficra.org and we will contact you. FIARC members can also volunteer to help the Emergency Response Team with communications during an emergency.
Citizens' Patrol Updates

Have you seen the new stop sign? At the intersection of Island Boulevard and 9th? The County is working to make driving safer for all of us and we are benefiting
from their work. The last significant change they made was at Island Blvd and 11th by squaring up the stop on 11th to make seeing oncoming traffic better. Thank
you, Pierce County!

Tip of the Month: Boating season is underway! Coming with that will be
summer partying. The boat launch site at the bridge is where parties seem to
accumulate. If they become too noisy or become a hazard to traffic and
pedestrian safety, call the Sheriff’s Department's non-emergency line at (253) 798-4722 and then leave a message on our hot-line at (253) 549-7744 that you have done so.

Singer/songwriter Kristen Marlo began singing before she could talk, and hasn’t stopped since. She is a classically trained vocalist and self-taught guitarist, but also an accomplished composer and lyricist. She is a US Air Force veteran. Inspiration for her prolific songwriting comes from passion for new experiences; her work covers the full range of human emotion, from love and lust to rage and revenge.
This concert is for Chapel Members only. Not a member? Join or renew online or at the door for just $25 a year.
Chapel Chats
The Chapel has a new series called "Chapel Chats" that are similar to TED Talks. Presented by local residents sharing their interesting jobs, travel, and other experiences. We will hold one chat per month on various topics. Each chat is planned for just one hour with social time afterwards for questions.
