Hear this: Trans-disciplinary research team heads down new path to study sound in industry

There are many wicked problems being tackled at the University of Cincinnati. One of the newest? Sound in Industry 5.0.

For this month's feature, Findings spoke with members of the fourth cohort of the OoR's Trans-disciplinary Research Leadership Program about its project: The Sound of Industry.

Guided by two esteemed mentors, each individual in the research team came with their own perspective and expertise to build the project. They herald from UC's College of Law, UC Blue Ash, College of Arts & Sciences, College Conservatory of Music and College of Business.

Join us for the first IRiS Sensing Expo and Festival

Bringing together various viewpoints to tackle problems that matter is UC's thing.

Ignite is an example. Created by UC's Institute of Sensing Research (IRiS), with support from Research2030 and the Colleges of Arts & Sciences and Engineering & Applied Science, the event takes place May 25 and 26 in the Tangeman University Center.

For two days, IRiS Ignite will explore all kinds of sensing topics. The event is open to all, including students, scholars, innovators, artisans and entrepreneurs. Registration runs from $10-$25 and includes refreshments and a food truck lunch voucher.

The expo and festival will feature keynotes on human augmentation and implantable and wearable devices. Plus, there will be 15-minute lectures, a poster session, art exhibition and 5-minute performances pieces.

Proposal Budgets - More Than a Bunch of Numbers

10:30 a.m. to noon, May 16

Preparing and managing a grant proposal budget can be challenging. In this presentation, Office of Research staff will highlight some key information on the basics of budgeting, the available tools, and most importantly where to turn for assistance. We will review a sample project and walk through the process of creating a budget for that process in a workshop format. This will be followed by a Q&A where the presenters will be available to discuss any specific areas of interest to the audience, and answer any questions.

Logic Models - A Skill-Building Workshop to Improve your Grant Proposals

10 a.m. to noon, May 23

In this interactive session, Liz Litzler, Ph.D. from the University of Washington, will work with attendees to build their capacity to create a useful logic model that can be used to design and evaluate a project or grant. Logic models are a tool to help ensure continuity and achievement of your project goals. Attendees will walk away with a greater level of comfort and confidence about logic models and evaluation, relevant resources and an initial draft of your own project logic model.
