It's almost Summer!

We all know what this means... hotter weather, random rain storms, and the nitrogen ban is coming back.

The Nitrogen Ban will begin on June 1st

Starting this June, we will not be applying nitrogen-based fertilizers and we cannot apply them again until the 1st of October.

This is because Lee, Charlotte, and Sarasota counties have a ban placed at this time every year in order to help keep our waterways clean.

This ban has been in effect since 2008 in order to reduce chances of red tide, as the more frequent rain increases chances of runoff into our waterways.

Even before 2008, we would make our use of nitrogen-based fertilizers minimal at this time of year, as the rain helps in the same way nitrogen would for lawns, trees, and shrubs.

Luckily, rainy season coincides with growing season here, meaning that even without the use of nitrogen, your grass and plants should remain green!

Nitrogen is only one out of 13 ingredients that we use in our fertilizer, so only one missing ingredient will not affect our normal treatments, as nitrogen is what makes the plant life green.

If you have any new landscaping or sod put in during this time, we are allowed a 60 day variance to treat as needed, since nitrogen is necessary for new plant life in order to promote a healthy root system, which helps prevent runoff into our waterways.

We will continue using nitrogen-based fertilizer until the end of May

Right now, we will still apply our regular fertilizer, but at the end of this month, we will begin using our revised formula. This will still keep your grass, trees, and shrubs healthy while the rain helps keep everything green.

The nitrogen ban lasts from June 1st through October 1st.
