Hello,
April. I'm sorry this is a little late, but we were in Kansa City for a grandsons wedding and just returned last evening. April it seems, is following the poem of April showers bring May flowers. A little late but we will take the rain any time.
April does bring several special days, beginning with April fools day. It is believed that it began in 1582 when France switched from the Gregorian Calendar to the Julian. According to legend, due to news being slow to spread, many were still using the former calendar and were called dumb or Fools. Over the hundreds of years it turned into a day to make jokes, and "fool" everyone.
Easter and Passover are in April and the Rose moon as well. A very special day is Local Yarn Store Day, LYS, which we always celebrate with a two day 20% off sale on Friday and Saturday, the 25th and 26th. We hope you will come and celebrate with us.
I have been receiving boxes of yarn all week. Dream in Colors Pop Up color of the month came in yesterday. It is called Montauk. It has spring colors and a soft blend. The popular Summer Sesame (47% cotton and a blend of nylon and acrylic) which is excellent for a summer shawl or top, arrived yesterday. It is easy on the hands and knits up quick on a 6-9 needle. We also refilled our work horse Vintage, and restocked the Red Rock colors by Huasco.
We are looking ahead and planning a summer top KAL, (knit along). We'll begin in May. We have selected two patterns. Summersquare Top is designed by von Hintern Stein. It is made with a dk, or heavy fingering. It is an uncomplicated pattern using garter and stocking knit. The second top is the Busan Tee by Karoline Skovgaard Bentzen. It is a fairly easy pattern with an open cable up the front. A little bit more challenging but still most can knit without too much difficulty. Again the yarn would be a dk or heavy fingering. Or you could hold a fingering with a mohair or other fine yarn.
The biggest event in our home this April is that we picked up two English cream golden retriever puppies on our trip. My grandson in law, Floris, graciously flew me in his private plane to the Big Star Kennel in Iowa. Now you will be seeing pictures of our Five goldens. Yes I know it sounds insane but we have done this before. The addition of Gunner and Roses has certainly brought the mothering out in Poppy and Annie. Sunny is just going along with whatever.
Happy Spring Equinox, Easter and Passover.
