St. Lucia Breast Imaging Course Sponsored by ISR

The second ISR sponsored Breast Imaging Course in St. Lucia. Dr. Katerina Dodelzon and Dr. Janine Katzen provided resources and education to the St. Lucia community. Dr. Dodelzon reported the passion this group of physicians had for their patients and the dedication to their care while taking time away from their families and busy practices was both humbling and infections.

"We have no doubt that armed with the tools we were able to provide these physicians will greatly impact the beast care of the entire island community," said Dr. Dodelzon.

WHO Member States Make Major Steps Towards Pandemic Agreement

The ISR welcomes the preliminary consensus on the WHO Pandemic Agreement reached on April 16 by the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) after more than three years of extensive negotiations.

The draft, described as a "generational accord to make the world safer," is now ready for consideration by the World Health Assembly in May.

The INB was established by WHO Member States during the COVID-19 pandemic to develop and negotiate an instrument to strengthen pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. During the negotiation period, the ISR in its role as a Non-State Actor in official relations with the WHO was regularly invited to virtual briefings by the INB and followed the developments through the ISRQSA.

Provided that the Agreement is ratified by the WHA, the ISR looks forward to its implementation and to discussing the role of imaging.

Coronary Artery Calcium Testing—Too Early, Too Late, Too Often

Traditional risk factors, enhancing factors, and risk scores help clinicians assess atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk for primary prevention. The latest cholesterol guidelines suggest measuring coronary artery calcium (CAC) score by computed tomography (CT) in those at intermediate risk when there is uncertainty about statin initiation for primary prevention. CAC testing can improve both risk estimation and adherence to cardiovascular risk–reducing behaviors.
