Welcome to the May Issue of
HIIN The Know !
Spring forward to renewed patient safety!

In this issue of the HIIN The Know newsletter, we share and celebrate the collective success of the HIIN hospitals over the past two years. By working together, learning, and sharing best practices while partnering with patients and families in creating safer hospitalizations, HSAG HIIN hospitals have achieved great success. Since Q4, 2016, 20,759 harms have been avoided, and an estimated 2,314 lives have been saved representing $338,197,669 in cost savings! HSAG HIIN hospitals comprise the best performing network among all 16 HIIN networks nationwide. No other HIIN group has made as many strides to prevent healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), adverse drug events (ADEs), falls, sepsis, and other harm events. Congratulations and thank you for your hard work!

This great accomplishment means we get to continue our work together through March 2020. The focus will be to sustain the gains already achieved while working on the topics where we’ve not yet achieved targets, such as hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs), ventilator-associated events (VAEs), sepsis, and ADEs. Reducing avoidable hospital readmissions is always a focus of the HIIN and in the coming months, we will feature additional opportunities to help hospitals address readmissions due to sepsis, a top driver of readmissions.

Finally, in line with our renewed focus, the HSAG HIIN team is working together under one umbrella. The Hospital Quality Institute advisors are now part of the HSAG team, and we are excited to continue supporting HSAG HIIN hospitals.

Coming Soon—Hospital Readmission Reports
To continue monitoring progress on readmissions, HSAG HIIN will disseminate another readmission report later this month. The readmission report will provide a summary of your hospital’s Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS) readmission data through Q4 2018 and provide overall and stratified readmission rates, allowing your hospital to identify key areas of focus and improvement.
