Dear Claudia:
While summer doesn’t officially start until June 20th, it’s starting to feel like it now and I could not be more excited to welcome the warm weather and enjoying all of the fun, summer activities and events in store for us. Vermonters know that summer is fleeting, so we’ve got to pack it all into 3+ short months and take full advantage of everything it offers. Some of the things I’m most looking forward to are:
- Fresh produce – There is nothing better than a farmers market haul to inspire your inner chef and savoring healthy choices. Local locations and schedule below.
-
All five of the Weston Theater Company’s shows slated for this summer - I am excited for them all, but especially the pleasure of watching my grandchildren develop a love for the theater with this summer’s FREE kids show, “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus”; and, also for what I anticipate to be an incredibly moving production of “A Distinct Society” (which I have learned was chosen for its poignancy and Vermont connections and selected to be on Weston’s schedule well before this spring’s political upheaval (immigration, deportations, tariffs)).
-
Londonderry’s Music Mondays (alternating weeks throughout the summer) - Summer evenings (6PM) with live music and camaraderie at Pingree Park. Listen to some great music, nosh on BYOB snacks and bevys, and enjoy time with friends! Keep an eye on our Facebook page for scheduling info and updates.
- Time on the water – Anytime and anywhere! While we’re always game for a visit to the Cape, Maine, Long Island Sound, and other sandy, ocean venues, little ole land-locked Vermont has some pretty special places as well.
- Cocktails on the patio, picnics and evenings outside – Taking full advantage of the warm weather and gathering with friends.
Enjoy your summer and I’ll be back in touch in a couple of months with more news and information to share so that you can see what’s in store for the 2nd half of the summer.
Be well and stay in touch. And, of course, please contact us for all of your Vermont real estate needs.

| | Londonderry Welcomes New Brewery | | |
There is a new brewery in Londonderry – hip hip hooray! Join us in welcoming Twisted Horn Brewery to the area.
Launched by longtime Londonderry residents (and the owners of Glebe Mountain Gardens) Curt and Martha Cowles and Martha’s brother and sister-in-law David and Jen Barker, the brewery is now offering three beers with plans for additional brews as they build their inventory and reputation. The tasting room shares space with and is located at Glebe Mountain Gardens and is open most weekends for retail sales, so be sure to stop in for a taste and to pick up a 4-pack during their weekend hours. Twisted Horn beers are also available on tap at local establishments including the New American Grill, Magic Mountain’s Black Line Tavern, and Red Slate at the Upper Pass Lodge, and for 4-packs for sale at Meuleman’s Craft Draughts in Rawsonville, West River Provisions in Jamaica, and the Bromley Market in Peru.
The current lineup includes:
- Hazy Mazie DIPA – hints of grapefruit and pineapple are balanced with a lightly toasted malt flavor making this a remarkably drinkable DIPA. It has been coined “a double IPA for people who don’t like IPAs” by those who have visited and tasted it.
- Ground Breaker Pale Ale - easy drinking, slightly hoppy pale ale with Cascade hops sourced from the Champlain Valley in Vermont. At 5.3%, it is easy and refreshing to drink, offering subtle notes of grapefruit and pine.
- 7 Seasons Lager – a smooth, delicious, well-balanced beer that’s perfect for any occasion and enjoyable all year-round. This will be the perfect quaff for your upcoming summer barbecues.
Be sure to follow Twisted Horn on Facebook and Instagram.

Unpleasant odors in a home can be more than just a nuisance. Sometimes, weird smells in the house can be early warning signs of underlying problems that may lead to bigger issues down the road.

Banana "Bread" Cake
with Brown Butter Frosting
With summer around the corner and dreaming of potlucks and picnics, I am sharing this old favorite recipe, source unknown. Easy to make, transports well, and is always a crowd-pleaser!
1.5 cups sugar
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 large eggs
1.75 cups mashed ripe bananas (3 or 4 depending on size)
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Brown Butter Frosting:
1/2 cup butter
3 cups powdered sugar
1.5 tsp. vanilla extract
3 tbsp. milk
* Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease and flour a 10-inch or 12-inch round or 15 x 10-inch baking dish.
* In a large bowl, beat together the sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs until creamy. Blend in bananas and vanilla extract. Add flour, baking soda, salt, and blend for 1 minute. Stir in walnuts or chocolate chips (if using).
* Spread the batter evenly into pan and back for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and set aside for frosting.
* Just before your cake is ready to come out of the oven, make your frosting by heating the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle boil and watch it very carefully as it turns a soft, nut brown in color and remove from heat immediately without letting it burn.
* Add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract and milk to your browned butter and whisk together until smooth and glossy. It will appear thinner than a traditional frosting, which will allow it to be absorbed a bit into the cake as it cools.
* Spread the brown butter frosting over the still warm cake and then let cool before serving.
