2020 legislative actions have stalled.
The Palmetto Cycling Coalition wrote an amendment to the Hands Free bill, S.723, in late February 2020,
addressing inequities in enforcement
. We based this on a successful 2019 Hands Free bill in Massachusetts, which was part of their comprehensive traffic safety reform. In early March, we began advocating for our amendment, but the pandemic put the world on hold.
Now, recent protests bring renewed relevance to this potential amendment, so we continue these conversations. The 2021 legislative session is full of uncertainties, but
continue to advance the Hands Free and 3 Feet bills
(and possibly others). We are considering partnering for a broader, comprehensive road safety effort. Last, we owe a h
