A special note to our esteemed members from Ann Vaughn, President

Have you been waiting to register for the Impact100 DC 2024 Grant Awards Celebration on June 18th from 6 to 8:30 PM?

Now is the time to RSVP.

Reasons everyone should attend!

Meet Members!

Our biggest and most important in-person event of the year, it is a wonderful opportunity to meet other members. Don’t yet know anyone? Don’t worry! There will be plenty of Board member hosts to greet you and introduce you to other Impact members.

Meet Our Finalists!

Meet all of our 2024 Awardees and hear from the Impact Grantee - a chance to get a first-hand sense of the power of an individual donation multiplied by 162.

Have Fun!

With a gorgeous outdoor space and tremendous views, there is no better space than the Capitol Hill Akin Law Firm rooftop. The food is great and beverages are plentiful.

Increase YOUR Impact!

A GREAT opportunity to help us recruit for 2025, we would love it if every member brought at least one guest. (If you have already registered and have someone you’d like to bring along, simply email me - avaughn@impact100dc.org - with the name(s) and email address(es).

Have you registered for Meet the Finalists on June 11 at noon?

In this hour-long zoom meeting you will hear each of our five finalist organizations speak about why their proposed use of Impact100 DC funds will lead to lasting and significant change in our community. This is your key opportunity to get to know our finalist organizations. You will also receive instructions for voting, which opens following the close of the meeting.

Stay tuned for this Friday’s announcement of our 2024 Grant Finalists! Members will also receive Executive Summaries for each of the finalist applications.

With gratitude,

Ann

Interested in a Leadership Role?

Our Board is looking to fulfill several important positions over the next year. Any Impact100 DC member is eligible to fulfill them, regardless of how long you've been a part of our organization! We have a warm, welcoming, and talented Board—so if even if you're just thinking about it, don't hesitate to reach out!

1) We are in need of Finance folks!

  • Our current treasurer, Betty Dziura, plans to step down from the position in the fall, and we hope to have two women share the job. Betty was one of the original Board members who began meeting in the fall of 2020. She has created a very efficient financial operation for the organization with detailed policies and procedures, so we anticipate that the transition will be a smooth one. Contact Ann Vaughn (President) at avaughn@impact100dc.org for a full job description.
  • We need a CoChair for the Finance Committee to work with the wonderful and experienced Meagan Van Orden. Please contact Meagan at mvanorden@impact100dc.org for more information.

2) We are looking to rotate in new Focus Area Committee chairs for 2025. Please contact one of our Grants Co-chairs, Caitlin Van Orden (cvanorden@impact100dc.org) or Dorothy Durden (ddurden@impact100dc.org), who can provide you with more information, discuss the time commitment with you, and answer your questions. This is a great way to lead a group of committed women, get closely connected to our grants process, and lead the charge for our next round of impact.

Member Profile: Meet Lois Nemhard

Profile by Ann Vaughn, President

Lois Nembhard joined the Board of Impact100 DC this year and brings her skills in grantmaking and strategic, operational and programmatic support and training of non-profit leaders and organizations at the very time Impact is looking at its own capacity and process. Lois is the Director of Grantmaking and Programs at HumanitiesDC as well as Chief Resilience Officer at Resiliency Blueprint, who serve as consultants/coaches to leaders of community-based nonprofits. She describes herself as “passionate about improving the lives of children and families in under-resourced communities and committed to strengthening …the organizations that serve them.” She is co-chairing the Health and Wellness Focus Area Committee this grant cycle.

Lois was born in Jamaica and moved with her parents to Northern California as a young child. She lived in the East Bay with her sister and parents and said her grounding in human services started with family: “They were all involved in giving…it was in the air.” She remained in California through her undergraduate degree at Mills College, moved to Pennsylvania for graduate school, worked in Jamaica and the Twin Cities for a few years, and then headed to DC to work in grantmaking for the federal government at AmeriCorps and then the Social Innovation Fund. She noted that working on the national level with large programs and budgets felt far removed from the communities they were assisting, and she is excited to be working on a local level. HumanitiesDC is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and works to ensure that the humanities are available to all and empowers DC residents to tell and document their stories.

Impact100 DC attracted Lois because it combines an impressive national model, involvement at a community level and the combined financial power of giving with great people who really care and are trying to make good work happen. It is not surprising that Lois has interesting insights into strategies for retaining and building a diverse membership. She noted it is an “introspective process” where we need to understand what is important to folks who join…from activism and social change to meaningful social engagement and philanthropy. As a young organization, Impact100 DC has the opportunity to refine its processes to be more applicant- and grantee-centered in our application and decision making processes. It’s great to see that already underway.

As Lois said, “It is wonderful to be part of a bigger, larger effort…part of a big grant…I would never be able to have this impact on my own.”
