  Community Outreach Updates

Lacey Fire District's SeniorSafe@Home fall and fire prevention program continues to provide an important service to independently living seniors. The program consists of a free home safety assessment to identify potential fire and fall risks.

Of the homes assessed since the program's launch in Fall of 2021, our team has identified a multitude of areas in need of safety improvements, including non-functioning smoke alarms, trip and fall hazards, and more. Depending on the type of safety improvements needed, some can be made at the time of the appointment. Otherwise our team helps the resident determine what their next course of action should be to resolve the issue.

The assessment is free. If you or a family member is interested, please contact us at 360-528-2330 or by emailing info@laceyfire.com.

Volunteer Opportunity - Incident Support Unit

Would you like to be a member of a team that provides a crucial service to our community?

Lacey Fire has an active volunteer force that supports Operations, and we are currently looking for individuals to fill Incident Support Unit (ISU) positions. The primary role of the ISU is to provide support for first responders at emergency scenes and training events.

To apply and learn more about this volunteer opportunity, email info@laceyfire.com or call 360-528-2330.

 Hands-Only CPR Training

Maybe you've never had CPR training, or perhaps you need a refresher. LFD3 partner agency, Thurston County Medic One offers free Adult Compression-Only CPR classes to Thurston County residents.

This may be the most useful 1.5 hours you can spend! Classes are located throughout the county. Click here to access the class schedule page for more information, and to sign up!

Water & Boater Safety

Upcoming seasonal activities often may include boating adventures.

Life jackets are one of the most effective safety items on a vessel. Anyone can drown regardless of swimming abilities. Protect yourself by always wearing a life jacket.

Did you know? Washington State law requires all vessels (including canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards) to carry at least one properly fitted US Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (life jacket) for each person on board a vessel.

Also, children age 12 and younger must wear a US Coast Guard approved life jacket at all times when underway in a vessel less than 19 feet in length, unless in a fully enclosed area.

Residential Outdoor Burning Rules

Spring and summer months prompt questions about use of fire pits and burning yard debris. Whether or not these activities are permissible depends on the jurisdiction of your residence.

The Olympic Region Clean Air Agency (ORCAA) is the regulatory agency concerning outdoor burning. In accordance with their regulations:

  • Recreational fires (used for cooking or recreation) are allowed at residences outside of city limits, provided the fire is no larger than 3 feet in diameter and only seasoned firewood or charcoal is used.
  • Recreational fires within city limits are prohibited

Note: burn bans may be called at any time or in any area during high fire danger periods and/or for air quality issues.

For more detailed information on all residential outdoor burning regulations including burning yard debris, click here to download ORCAA's brochure or visit www.orcaa.org.
