Draft FY 2027-2031 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Now Available for Review

The MPO is pleased to release its annually updated Transportation Improvement Program. The FY 2027 - FY 2031 Draft TIP includes $97.95 million for resurfacing, and $86.79 million for new capacity projects in Indian River County. Major projects include the widening of CR-510, widening of CR-512 between Willow St and I-95, and a multimodal retrofit of 45th Street between 43rd Avenue and 58th Avenue. This year's TIP also now includes performance metrics. In previous years, performance metric targets were identified, yet no attainment data was shown!

Updates to GoLine's Online Wayfinding

Our "research," and by research we mean our newsletter performance metrics, shows that 42% of you all will read this newsletter on a smartphone.

As such, we know that many of you all use your smart phones to navigate around too! What you may be less familiar with is that the same Google Maps and Apple Maps platforms will also help you navigate riding transit.

The mapping platforms provide navigation through integrating GoLine's General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) with your location data...in other words, they can tell you how GoLine will get you to your destination!

GTFS is a 20 year old technology, which GoLine adopted in 2022, yet only over the last few months with the addition of Jarrod McCarthy to MPO staff has GoLine's web navigation been meaningfully updated. Jarrod, who transferred to the MPO from working with the Federal Transit Administration on GTFS issues, has redesigned GoLine's GTFS to reflect the system's seamless transfers, which reduces expected trip times by over an hour in most use cases.

We implore you to see if riding transit may be perfect for you. Next time you use your phone for directions, give the "transit" icon a try!

Trans-Florida Rail Trail Construction Continues into Downtown Fellsmere

Construction is well underway for the newest improved section of the Trans-Florida Railroad Trail, an MPO priority project. This segment runs from west of St. Sebastian State Park to North Broadway Street in Fellsmere for a total project length of 3 miles. This segment of the trail will have a 12' wide paved shared use path, and will connect downtown Fellsmere with the City of Sebastian to the east. Construction funds were provided by the Florida Department of Transportation through the Transportation Alternatives program, and construction is anticipated to finish in late July.

The Trans-Florida Railroad Trail was added to the Shared-Use Non-motorized (SUN) trail network in 2024. The SUN trail network is a statewide shared use path network established in 2015 with dedicated funds to connect the State's growing tail system.
