May is Melanoma Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness for the most dangerous form of skin cancer. While it accounts for only a small percentage of skin cancer cases, melanoma is responsible for the majority of skin cancer deaths. That's why awareness and early detection are critical to improving survival rates.

This annual observance allows Melanoma Canada to educate the public about the risk factors associated with melanoma, the importance of early detection, and ways to prevent melanoma and skin cancer.

With a mission to provide support, education, and advocacy for the melanoma and skin cancer community, Melanoma Canada’s vision is to have ZERO melanoma skin cancer related deaths in Canada.

To help achieve this vision, join us this month in raising awareness about melanoma and skin cancer by getting involved and sharing informative articles, graphics, and videos on your social media accounts and including #MelanomaAwarenessMonth @MelanomaCanada

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED:

All Month Long

EDUCATE YOURSELF AND OTHERS ABOUT MELANOMA & SKIN CANCER

Melanoma and skin cancer are among the most common types of cancers affecting Canadians each year. In fact, 1 in 3 cancers diagnosed in Canada is a form of skin cancer. This year, an alarming 89,000 Canadians will receive a melanoma or skin cancer diagnosis. And tragically, 1,200 Canadians will lose their life to melanoma.

By educating yourself about melanoma and skin cancer, you can take an active role in promoting your own health. We encourage you to visit the Melanoma Canada Website to learn more about melanoma and skin cancer.

All Summer Long

HOP ABOARD CANADA'S FIRST MOLE MOBILE

The first of its kind in Canada, the Mole Mobile will conduct life-saving skin checks for a minimum of five summers across major Canadian cities with long wait times to see a dermatologist, as well as underserved communities, rural areas, and Indigenous regions.

With the partnership and support of the Canadian Dermatology Association, CDA member Dermatologists from each province will be on board to conduct over 25,000 skin cancer screenings each summer, with the goal of speeding up diagnosis, which is vital to improving outcomes for patients.

This summer, we invite you to hop aboard the Mobile Mobile as it travels across Ontario. Book your FREE skin check today at a nearby location.

If you're interested in discovering more about our Mole Mobile initiative, booking a free skin check, or making a direct donation, please visit our website at molemobile.ca.

Follow our Mole Mobile as it travels across Ontario at #MoleMobile @MelanomaCanada.

Why is Black the Colour of Melanoma?

Black is the colour associated with melanoma awareness because melanoma is a type of skin cancer that often appears as a dark or black spot on the skin. By using black as the color for melanoma awareness, it helps to emphasize the importance of early detection and prevention of this deadly disease.

SELF ASSESSMENT SWIM SUIT

May is Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and today North American creative agency No Fixed Address launched its creation — the Self-Assessment Suit — in partnership with Melanoma Canada. The suit comes in either a one-piece bikini or swim trunks.

The limited-edition swimsuits are the first-ever wearables designed to educate on the early detection of melanoma. The suit’s custom pattern is inspired by the ABCDEs (five characteristics) people should look for when assessing their moles: asymmetry, border, color, diameter, and evolving. With its rad, eye-catching, '90s-era design

Those interested in securing the limited edition swimsuits should follow @MelanomaCanada on Instagram to be amongst the first with access to the exclusive drop. As we inch closer to a fun-in-the-sun summer, the Self-Assessment Suit gives you rad attire to impress at your next pool party or beach day and brings awareness to everyone around to be safe and aware while in the sun.
