Hello All,
As I start to make each newsletter I like to take a moment to look back at the past month or two. Lately, I have given myself a score for how well I think I did at telling the story of what is current in our industry and what we could be looking at in the future.
Today, I gave myself a 9 for past amino acid forecasting on availability & pricing. I am also giving myself an 8 for best read importance.
Each newsletter has links to what I think are the best articles I read that month. The first best read this month is about Colorado’s Initiative 16. It is absurd when you look beyond the feel good story its supporters are spinning. It is equally as bad as California’s Proposition 12.
The small groups behind these bills are working hard to put laws into place that at first glance seem reasonable so that reasonable people put no thought voting them into place. The first best read last month told about using social media to tell your agriculture story. I am another small group (of one) with a story; trying to sell and influence what I believe and know. I send this newsletter to 274 people in the industry and several of my family members. My intent is to inform and have a good laugh when possible.
We are dependent on imports. Freight costs continue to escalate. Containers and ship shortages have created 20-40 cent a pound increases on many imported products. Today, I am at a loss to predict what will happen in the next few weeks and months as several industry forecasters are changing daily. Though my belief continues to be; keep just in case inventory.
Hopefully disruptions get corrected and price relief arrives this fall.
