FREE to CURRENT SCBWI MEMBERS the fourth slate of weekly webinars featuring renowned children's book creators will take place live via Zoom for six Thursdays at 3 pm CDT.

The first workshop on May 13 will be "Transforming a Picture Book Manuscript into a Visual Narrative" with illustrator Jacqueline Alcántara.

On May 20, "Celebrating Asian Voices" will bring together six children's book creators to discuss the role their Asian or Pacific Islander identity plays in the writing and art they create.

The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators stands in solidarity with the Asian members of our human family and their right to stay safe, alive, and humanized. “Members of the Asian, Asian American, and Asian Pacific Islander community have experienced unique vulnerability as targets of racism and xenophobia as anxiety and fear over COVID-19 has spread over the past several months.” Stereotypes, tropes, and circumstance will never justify exclusion, racism, or violence towards human beings.

We invite you to visit the SCBWI Equity and Inclusion Resource Library to discover resources for and about Asian and Pacific Islander creators and to help the the entire kid lit community #StopAAPIHate.

What Editors, Art Directors, and Agents Want: Preparing the Illustrator and Their Portfolio

Go to into deeper, narrative, and emotive properties of a great portfolio with ideas and tips a long the way.

Join us on May 18 to learn more about creating effective author websites with Nate Hoffelder. The past year has shown us that an author’s website is more important than ever. Join Nate to learn about refreshing your author website with a new look and new functionality.

Emotion and sensory detail are important aspects of creating believable characters and experiences and engaging readers. But how do you do that? This workshop will provide key methods and tools for layering emotional and sensory detail into your novel that will add depth to your characters and their world. The first half of this workshop will focus on infusing the story with emotion. The second half of the workshop will provide exercises for including sensory details in your fiction, using all five (make that six) senses.
