After a recent training for 20 Oakland school nurses, Elizabeth Hurt, RN, PHN said: "Your training was invaluable-I can't emphasize that enough. You increased our awareness about epilepsy, taught us to recognize seizures and administer first aid, and empowered us to help our students.  We were only able to train our nurses because it was free."

NEW PROGRAM
Seizure First Aid Certification
Can you take A.C.T.I.O.N?
At the Stroll we unveiled our Seizure First Aid Certification Program to teach the 99% of people who don't have seizures (and also those who do) how to recognize a seizure and how to provide first aid. Members of our Young Adult Leadership Council, ages 14-25, certified 220 people--more than half of the people at the Stroll! Our goal is to certify as many people as possible so that our friends and family members with seizures or epilepsy are safe and able to protect the one-in-26 people who will have a seizure in their lifetime.
2014 Epilepsy Pipeline Conference--June 5-7
Check out YouTube!
Day 3, Family Day is sold out, but the Epilepsy Foundation is bringing the conference to YOU! Those who are unable to travel to San Francisco can attend online. A live feed will be broadcast on the Epilepsy Foundation YouTube channel. This new conference feature will help spread awareness and education about the challenges of living with seizures and about new therapies and treatments for epilepsy.

"The Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California will be in the exhibit room so stop by to say hello and to find out what's happening here in Northern California."
Katherine Keeney, President, EFNC

Support Group Facilitator, Ivana
NEW SUPPORT GROUP
Meet Ivana
Bringing Support To You

Why did you choose to start a support group?
I want to help kids and teenagers go through the struggles I had to face alone. I want them to know there is more to them than just epilepsy. It does not define who they are. Most importantly I want them to know they have a safe haven when times get tough.

What are your goals?
I want to empower the youth with epilepsy and encourage them to learn to stand on their own two feet. Also, I hope to educate them more about their seizures and what resources are available. I want to create a comfortable environment of trust, strength and courage.

Expressions of Courage
Youth with epilepsy ages (5-17)
3rd Tuesday (5-6:30 pm) every month
Sanger, CA at St. Mary's Catholic Church (local church room)
