Frances Perkins National Monument

Opening Celebration: Saturday, June 21st, 10am-2pm

This summer, FPC is working in partnership with the National Park Service to host visitors to the Frances Perkins National Monument! Explore a self-guided exhibit in the Homestead barn, walk the trails to the Damariscotta River, and enjoy the grounds of the 57-acre national monument property. SUMMER HOURS: June 19-Sept 28, Thursdays through Sundays, 10am-2pm

Trails open dawn to dusk, year-round - Brick House closed in 2025 for archival work.

A Special Message From The Bishop of Maine

We in Maine are lucky to have the example of Frances Perkins, for whom faith was inseparable from action. In her daily life and work, this Newcastle resident and devout Episcopalian followed God’s first commandment, “to love one another as I have loved you.” She built her groundbreaking political career on the belief that our purpose is to live in union with God and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, which drove her fight to make life better for the poor, children, and ordinary Americans. To commemorate her feast day on May 13, I invite people of all denominations to pray for God’s guidance so that we, like Frances, may draw on our faith to reach out to a vulnerable and hurting world.

The National Park Service is required to post the following document for public review and comment when establishing a new National Park Service site. Please note this compendium only applies to the federally owned Perkins Homestead Brick House and attached ell & barn portion of the Frances Perkins Center property.
