Logo Needed for Friends of EG Library

Our Friends of EG library will need a logo! The logo will be used for things as big as the decoration on tote bags or swag, and as small as a book plate. What's an image that makes you think of EG and libraries?

Here are the rules:

  • Art: original sketch (no photos, clipart or AI) - freehand or computer drawn
  • Size: about 5" diameter circle, or 5" x 5", 600 pixels/inch
  • Color: any colors(s), simple is good, white background
  • Text: Friends of East Garrison Library

Submit your design, with the artist's full name, to

friendsofeglibrary@gmail.com

Here's Seaside's logo as an example. All ideas welcome!

Library Update

Thanks to library staff and the MCFL Foundation for a great meeting on May 9, exploring what friends of EG library can do. We learned that every library has facilities needs, and every library gets an Opening Day Book Collection.

Just imagine: a new library filled with new books; you open one and there's a book plate inside that says "Donated by [YOU] for Friends of EG Library"

Library staff haven't started purchasing yet but there are several ways friends of the library can contribute. If you're interested in donating to the library, contact us at friendsofeglibrary@gmail.com

Parking Study: One Step Forward

At the Board of Supervisor's May 14 meeting the Board approved the contract for a company to do the parking study on the Town Center. We'll keep you posted.

Bike Trail Update

The FORTAG trail comes to the edge of EG. More information is available at fortag.org or the TAMC website. To get involved contact Michael Zeller, Director of Programming & Project Delivery, at (831) 775-4416 or Mike@tamcmonterey.org.

If you've driven through Del Rey Oaks you've seen construction of the Fort Ord Trail and Greenway - FORTAG. I asked Fred Watson, one of the movers and shakers behind the project, how it’s going. He had lots of information.

The goal is a paved trail which will connect EG with CSUMB, Marina and all the way down the Monterey Peninsula without sharing the road with cars.

What you’re seeing in Del Rey Oaks is Segment 1. Segment 2 will go to the Marina Equestrian Center. There’s a part at the other end of Marina being funded by a developer. The segment parallel to InterGarrison along Jerry Smith Corridor as far as Schoonover Dr has also been funded and is in the planning phase. The part from there to EG has yet to be funded.

Fred says to get the project moving EG residents can advocate for “active transportation” - talk to our representatives, and vote for those willing to fund our section of the trail.

Ft Ord Update: Cleanup, Historic Photos

Here's the answer to "what was the land near Barloy Canyon and Watkins Gate used for?" Historic photos show it was a small arms firing range.

Quest: Ever notice those old stone walls around EG or in Ft Ord? Can you find markings on the walls that identify when they were built? Take a pic and let us know.
