Celebration of Life

Waveny's Celebration of Life, held recently on our Farm Road campus' Main Street, brought together those in our care and in our community who have recently lost a loved one. The uplifting ceremony included readings and music as well as the opportunity for family members to place a photograph of their loved one on our memorial wreath.

Waveny's Palliative and Hospice Care is focused on relieving physical and emotional pain so that patients can focus on spending precious with family and friends. Waveny Volunteer Receives Outstanding Volunteer Award

Congratulations to Waveny's dedicated volunteer Holly Galper, who received an Outstanding Volunteer Award from The Community Fund of Darien. Holly began volunteering in the Care Center in middle school; during Covid, Holly continued to volunteer and her thoughtful, kindness spirit made such a difference during the dark days of the pandemic. Next time you see Holly volunteering at our reception desk, please thank her for her service!

East Elementary Students Visit The Inn

The Inn, Waveny’s vibrant independent living community, welcomed students from East Elementary School for a lovely afternoon visit that included planting flowers, making pinecone bird feeders and reading with our residents. What a joy to see the young and the young at heart enjoying each other's company!

Telemedicine Now Available to all Care Center Patients

Waveny LifeCare Network has expanded its secure, state-of-the-art Telemedicine Services Program to the Care Center, now enrolling all patients in the program upon admission to our Short-term Rehabilitation facility. Patient's blood pressure, pulse, blood oxygen levels and body weight are measured and automatically transmitted to Waveny’s dedicated Telemedicine nursing staff.

The Bluetooth-enabled platform also allows patients to videoconference with their current personal physician(s), empowering those health professionals to deliver dynamic, remote patient-centered care.

“There is no other in-patient Skilled Rehabilitation facility in our area offering this service,” said Waveny’s President and CEO Russ Barksdale. “Telemedicine securely captures vital monitoring and trend data which will enable the physician to make the best patient-centered decision for care. With Telemedicine we are reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and ED visits, while substantiating patient diagnosis, treatment and recovery potential.” To learn more about Waveny's Telemedicine Services program, click HERE.

Supporting "Healthy" Communities

Living in a “healthy” community is a common aspiration, especially when we have access to excellent schools, transportation, housing, and emergency essential services. However, when we look at specific health indicators and compare our local community to others, you may find the results surprising. Read more from CEO Russ Barksdale's editorial in the New Canaan Sentinel HERE.

Did You Know?

Waveny LifeCare Network has over 500 volunteers who serve over 9,000 hours across the Network including in Hospice, at the New Canaan Thrift Shop and in the Waveny residential communities. Since Waveny's inception, it was expected that volunteers would play "a significant role in the care and support of patients." The tradition continues, as we welcome volunteers of all ages to help provide the enrichment and support that makes Waveny such a special place.
