Thanks to the generosity of David and Eleanor Ignat, founders of Middlebury Indoor Tennis (MIT), MIT has a non-profit mission to benefit our community. Through MIT's association with the Addison Community Athletics Foundation (ACAF), a supporting organization of the Vermont Community Foundation, the club strives to make tennis more accessible to our rural community. Donations to the non-profit ACAF are vital to our ability to offer free programs like Tiger Tennis for middle school students, scholarship assistance for families in need, introductory tennis programs in collaboration with schools and recreation departments, court time for our local high school tennis teams during their season and more. Please read our recent appeal letter to learn more about ACAF's work, and consider a donation to support our local efforts to make tennis accessible to our community.

Middlebury Indoor Tennis hosted the second Community Match in early April with the "Ignat Cup" in contention! The MUHS boys tennis team prevailed this year with a strong win versus a team of MIT members, several of whom are former MUHS players. Thank you to Ken Schoen for organizing this terrific event!

Good luck to our local high school tennis teams playing for Middlebury Union High School (MUHS). MIT members Ken Schoen, Chris Murray, and Alan Colthorp are coaching the boys' team and MUHS staff Dan Comar and Guy Magnano are the girls' coaches. Some of MIT's staff can be seen competing for the teams too: Sophia Boise, Jackson Murray, Brian Newton and Charlie Young. Both teams are off to a great start this season, and the boys team is eyeing a bid for Vermont state champions this year. Check out match schedules and come cheer on the teams!

Our tennis community lost a dear friend this past week when Bruce Byers passed away. A member of MIT for about 20 years and a regular player with the Monday and Friday morning group, Bruce was beloved by many. In the words of one friend, "Bruce was such a positive person, we all loved his presence as much as his savvy ‘old man’s game’, which included masterful lobs, flawless volleys, and a shocking power forehand down your alley, just when you were expecting another lob! I always smiled when I drove up to MIT and saw that “RedFox 55” license plate already there!" Bruce's kind nature and good humor will be missed by all.
