Minnesota Brownfields seeks sponsorships for ReScape Awards
The Minnesota Brownfields ReScape Awards might seem like a while out, but we are far along in the planning process. The event is getting some updates this year and your sponsorship helps make the event possible. Sponsorship is available at different levels, and can be viewed here. Mac Hyde Award nomination period opens May 26
Mac Hyde
Mac Hyde Award nominations will open on Tuesday, May 26. This individual merit  award honors Mac's legacy in brownfield  redevelopment and exceptional work ethic, and the winner of the award will be announced at the ReScape Awards on November 12. Nominations received in past years will be considered. View the nominee criteria here  
Vapor Intrusion Best Management Practices updated on Minnesota Pollution Control Agency website
MPCA logo The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has updated their Best Management Practices (BMPs) for vapor intrusion on their website. These BMPs function as MPCA's internal standard operating procedures for vapor intrusion work and are not new guidance. View the updates here.
Minnesota Brownfields sees changes to Advisory Committee members
Thank you to our outgoing Advisory Committee members who have helped provide feedback to Minnesota Brownfields workplan. Outgoing members include  Jason Murray (Alexandria Area EDC), Scott Tankenoff (Hillcrest Development), Mary Sands (Barr Engineering), Dan Schleck (Halleland Habicht), Patty Nauman (Metro Cities), Cathy Bennett (Urban Land Institute), and Keri Aufdencamp (MN Department of Transportation).

David Frank Named New Director of City of Minneapolis Economic Policy and Development
On Monday, April 6 of this year,  City of Minneapolis Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) Director D. Craig Taylor announced his appointment of David Frank as the new Director of Economic Policy and Development. Click here to view the press release.

New editions of the Benefits of Brownfield Redevelopment research paper and fact sheets have been released by Minnesota Brownfields. These publications were made possible, in part, by funding from the McKnight Foundation. The paper and fact sheets are available here.

Renewal Award Nominations deadline approaching
Once a year the Renewal Awards  culminate in the selection of four esteemed winners. The Awards are presented for outstanding projects representing the gold standard of redevelopment across four distinct categories:
  • Environmental Impact
  • Economic Impact
  • Social Impact
  • Sustainability Impact
Nominations are due  May 29, and w inners will be announced at the EPA Brownfields Conference. Information on how to nominate can be found here .
Wisconsin- Public Input Opportunity: Guidance on Importing Soil or Fill onto Remediation Site Enrolled in VPLE
The RR Program seeks your input on a new document titled   Identifying and Documenting Characteristics of Imported Soil and Other Fill Materials   Prior to Use on VPLE Sites (RR-041). The guidance describes how DNR staff will work with voluntary parties, consultants and others to establish reasonable materials management approaches for importing materials to a property that is being cleaned up through the VPLE program.

To what degree does the choice of development pattern impact costs for a local government? How do these decisions affect a municipality's budget and tax revenues, and the cost of infrastructure and services it must provide? Smart Growth America and r eal estate advisors RCLCO developed a tool to help answer these questions. A webinar discussing findings is available for viewing here.
Wisconsin looks to streamline remediation policies and procedures
The Harbor District in Milwaukee, WI is a prime location for brownfield redevelopment, and state authorities and independent advisory team Brownfields Study Group are streamlining the waterfront development process. Read more about Wisconsin's approach here.

The Associated General Contractors of America Environmental Conference is scheduled for September 2-3 in Arlington, Virginia.
