Happy Spring!

The sun in shining, the birds are chirping and the weather is getting warmer. I love summertime. But, it's easy for us to lose sight of our yoga practice this time of the year. Like I always say " get committed , or get committed!" I've listed below my Top 5 Reasons and Tips for staying committed this summer:

1. Don't lose your momentum. We know you've worked hard to get to where you are on your yoga mat. You don't want to lose this momentum and have to start over again in the fall.

2. We always need the mental clarity and balance that yoga brings us. The more we are on our yoga mats the more we realize this is more than just a physical practice.

3.Maybe you're thinking it's too HOT to do yoga? If this is your excuse, practice early. We offer classes starting as early as 6am. The earlier classes won't feel as "steamy" since it's cooler outside. We also offer Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga that are not heated.

4.In the summer months, with higher humidity levels, you'll sweat more! Yes, this is GOOD! The largest organ of our body is our skin. When we sweat, we DETOX! Just make sure you're drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated.

5.You'll stay healthy and fit! Did you know you burn up to 500 calories during a Power Yoga/Vigorous Vinyasa class?

There you go! And don't forget we offer childcare Monday-Sunday for all of our 8:30 and 10 a.m. classes.

ARM BALANCES WITH LISA
JUNE 2, 11:30 A.M.- 1:30 P.M.

Arm balances can be intimidating, yet so empowering. They can remind us to be playful, have courage, use body mechanics and alignment instead of force as we create a sense of lightness. Join me for this 2 hour workshop. We’ll begin with a fun 1 hour vinyasa class focusing on core, open shoulders, balance and hip flexibility. The second hour we will soar into postures such as crow, side crow, right angle, peacock, fallen angel and chin stand. The sky is the limit!

Join Giocanda for a weekend to grow your lifetime practice.

Resiliency is our ability to bounce back, to maintain health and vitality in the face of challenges. With it, we can grow and thrive--whatever comes our way. The workshops offered in this weekend are aimed at helping you build a longterm yoga practice. You’ll learn alignment and movement principles to optimize your efforts on the mat. We’ll tune into what the poses do for us physically and also how the different categories of poses effect our moods and mental clarity. You’ll leave with renewed curiosity and a deeper awareness of yourself, along with strength and stability both on and off the mat.

Four two hour practices that combine anatomy and specific alignment work which we then migrate into a flow practice to help students learn foundations and make progress.

MEET SHEILA GRIDER

My name is Sheila Grider. I received my 230 hour certification through Stephanie Keech, Ashville Yoga Center. I am privileged to teach at Southern Soul Yoga on Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m.
On this day every week I have the opportunity to share my practice with so many kind, fun loving yogis. The friendships I have made both old and new sparks my spirit of human kindness.
My first yoga practice with Sara Mingus awakened my soul unveiling a suppressed life of purpose. Many years of injuries and a multitude of medication for digestion issues led me to my mat. As a life long passion for physical fitness fed my soul, this practice of power yoga was my saving grace. My practice as well as my teaching are very personable and passionate. A continued practice provides wellness and joy every day, a balance on and off my mat.
You may catch me in the studio chatting with longtime friends or in the power room with a childlike attitude, playing with a new inversion.
