Meet Our First Summer Intern
|
We are happy to welcome our first summer intern, Brynne Godfrey, who started two weeks ago.
Brynne is a senior at Penn State University, where she is studying Economics, International Relations, and Spanish. She has studied abroad in Spain and hopes to continue her career/education in international economics and trade. Brynne actually job shadowed us when she was still in High School. She is originally from York county and will be working primarily from our outreach office in York. We will have two additional interns joining us for the summer semester.

Ramadan is the Islamic holy month during which
Muslims around
the world abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset.
This year, Ramadan started in the UAE on May 17 and will end by
Saturday June 16th

Commencement of Ramadan results in the slowing of economic/business
activities in the GCC countries.
Economists in the region estimate that the productivity
of employees, in both public and private sectors, declines by 35-50% as a
result of shorter working hours and the change in behavior during Ramadan.

On April 30, WTC Harrisburg and Stevens & Lee/Griffin International partnered to host a morning roundtable discussion focused on the Pennsylvania-Netherlands trade relationship. Local companies had the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Henne Schuwer, Consul General Dolph Hogewoning and their team from the Netherlands Embassy. International Trade Conference
May 1st marked the date for our 19th Annual International Trade Conference held in Reading, PA. This year's theme was "Celebrating Export Excellence" and the luncheon panel discussion featured three extraordinary exporting firms,
Adhezion Biomedical,
Hemaprep and
Radius. Company representatives shared their exporting challenges and successes, answered questions from event participants and were recognized for their export success.

ODT Global Exhibits at Pack Expo East
ODT Global exhibited at the
Pack Expo East, which was held in Philadelphia from April
16 - 18. The company was able to utilize a Global Access Program grant to help offset part of the trade show expenses. The GAP grant program is administered by the PA Office of International Business Development and funded by the US Small Business Administration.

Faculty from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and Cleveland State University in Ohio are carrying out research on the role of B2B salespeople in building superior knowledge of customers, competitors, and market conditions for their companies.
The project focuses on any company interested
in developing new products and/or opening new markets
whose sales representatives conduct business internationally.
A summary of the findings will be available upon request to companies whose salespeople complete the survey. All data collected will be strictly anonymous.
