A Sad Announcement
On April 24, we lost one of our precious Dreamer Scholars to an automobile accident. Cristian Lopez was a member of our Phoenix Class. He joined our program in 2010 and was known as a thoughtful, funny, hard-working young man with amazing potential.

Every student contributes immeasurably to our community and our organization, and this tragic and senseless loss wounds all of us. We know that you join us in offering our deepest condolences to Cristian’s parents and family.
Congratulations to our 2019 High School Graduates!
Exciting times! Six Dreamer Scholars from our Broadway East class in Boulder will be graduating high school this month. Our grads will be attending post-secondary at CU Boulder, CSU, Front Range Community College, Metro State, and vocational training programs.

We're so proud of you, graduates! We can't wait to see where life takes you next. You're all awesome!
Dreamer Scholars Prep and Interview
for Summer Internships
"I Have A Dream's" College & Career Department works hard to make sure every Dreamer Scholar is ready for post-secondary education and a meaningful career.

Our high school Dreamer Scholars and Dream Big partner students are eligible to apply for paid summer internships with local businesses and organizations.
Students participated in an internship bootcamp with resume advice and mock interview sessions.

Then they interviewed with internship hosts for their preferred summer jobs.

An estimated 40 new interns will start work after school gets out in May!
Agreements are getting finalized right now--keep your eye on our Partners page for a listing of all our amazing internship hosts and mock interviewers!
Program Director Spotlight:
 Francisco Medina
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself!
I graduated from CU Boulder, where I studied Sociology and Women and Gender Studies. I was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado. I'm the Program Director for the Diagonal Class of Dreamer Scholars at Boulder's Diagonal Court housing site.

Q: How do you see your role in your Dreamer
Scholars' lives?
I feel I play multiple roles in these children's lives. Sometimes I feel like a teacher, other times like a father. With so many different children and different needs at the forefront, I feel my role varies daily. I just know my role is to be a safe, consistent individual for Dreamer Scholars and their families.

Q: How do you collaborate with Dreamer Scholars' families to support them?
I believe that being available is most important when working with families in this field of work. I see myself as an advocate and liaison for these families and hold myself accountable in being accessible to them all. They, too, know about my upbringing and have immense trust in that I'll do my best to help or connect them to someone who can help. Being from this community myself also helps in that I'm very aware of resources around for families.
Middle School Dreamer
Scholars Explore Careers
The 6th and 7th grade Dreamer Scholars of our Oak Class at Casey Middle School recently heard from a variety of professionals about their work. Notable presenters included engineers from JVA Consulting Engineers and Kelly Ingraham, a local EMT with American Medical Response (AMR).

Kelly showed students her portable EKG machine and invited them to tour her ambulance! (She even let them turn the siren on :D)

Engineers from JVA Consulting Engineers talked about their work on Casey Middle School's building and the students did some experiments to learn what types of soil are better for building.
