A Note from CEO Jim Ayres Hello friends and supporters, Since arriving in Worcester in January, I have had the pleasure of getting to know many of you. You have shared your thoughts, ideas and aspirations for our region, and in doing so, have equipped me to be a better leader and ambassador for your Foundation.  Many of you have heard me say that Community Foundations are at our best when we are listening, learning organizations. And from this input, we then have a privilege and obligation to lead. Our listening and learning is only just starting. Beginning this summer, we will embark on an in-depth, community-driven Strategic Planning process that will shape where we focus, how we prioritize and what future levers we employ to shape our region. The Foundation Hosts 47th Annual Meeting On Tuesday, May 17, the Foundation hosted its 47th Annual Meeting. Over 200 people viewed the event online. Dr. Matilde Castiel, Foundation Board Member and City of Worcester Commissioner of Health, served as the guest speaker. This year’s recipient of the annual Renaissance Award was Tim Garvin, President & CEO of the United Way of Central Massachusetts in Worcester. For the past 18 years, the Renaissance Award has recognized talented, dedicated individuals serving our community through invaluable nonprofit roles. Thank you to all those who participated in this year’s event.

Next Round of Community Grants The Foundation will be accepting Community Grant applications for project support beginning May 27. This deadline is especially intended for new projects that organizations hope to launch next winter or spring; and/or for returning projects that completed work as described in the community grant application in 2021. Grants vary in size from $2,500 - $25,000. Applications will be accepted through July 15.

Creative Intersections Summer Grant Cycle Opening Soon The Creative Intersections grant program, part of the Creative Worcester Initiative, funds programs that use the arts as a tool and catalyst to react to human need in a genuine, inclusive, and fair manner. These funds are intended to support projects that combine non-arts sector programming with the arts - to foster collaboration and creativity. Arts, culture, and creativity are key components in assisting individuals, families, and communities to live healthy and thriving lives. Projects should be creative and help elevate unheard voices, give communities a sense of belonging, and use arts as a way to heal and uplift, or celebrate cultural differences. Applications will be accepted from June 3 until July 15.

Nonprofit Effectiveness Grants Open The Nonprofit Effectiveness Grant Program is intended to encourage new perspectives on normal operations that demonstrate a nonprofit's learning agenda and values. We believe that investing in nonprofit systems is vital because it improves or maintains an organization's ability to be a strong and inclusive employer and results in improved or continuing high-quality services.  Until mid-November, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Applicants are usually notified within 6 weeks of submitting their application.
