On Saturday, March 12th, as part of the Annual USC Alumni Day of SCervice, the METRANS K12 student team once again hosted local high school youth for an interactive day of lectures and activities designed to introduce them to exciting STEM careers, this year with an emphasis on those in aerospace. 

On March 30th, the Pacific Southwest University Transportation Center (PSR) hosted Professor Geoff Boeing and USC Urban Planning and Development PhD students Yougeng Lu and Clemens Pilgram for a seminar on the environmental justice issues of vehicle pollution titled “Local Inequities in the Relative Production of and Exposure to Vehicular Air Pollution in Los Angeles."

On February 25th, students from USC Hybrid High College Prep visited the headquarters of the Foothill Transit Agency for an up close and personal experience with transit operations and innovations. The visit was part of the METRANS K-12 Futures in Transportation (FIT) Program, in partnership with Hybrid High and facilitated by a generous grant by the USC Good Neighbors Program.

PSR PARTNER UPDATES

The fifth Annual Pacific Southwest Region University Transportation Center (PSR-UTC) Congress was held in person for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. The Congress took place from March 21-23, 2022, at the University of Hawai’i in Honolulu, Hawai’i.


Recognizing the significance of the pandemic's impacts, the themes of this year's Congress centered on vulnerability, resilience, and recovery

The California (CA)- Hawai’i (HI) Transportation Symposium was held virtually on March 23rd, in conjunction with the 2022 PSR Congress. 


Expert practitioners from both states engaged in a critical discussion to share knowledge with panels on freight partnerships, climate change, tourism, and transit technology.

UPCOMING EVENTS

The International Urban Freight Conference (I-NUF) is the premier biennial conference that addresses all aspects of city logistics and goods movement in the world’s metropolitan areas. The conference will bring together researchers and practitioners in urban freight, supply chains, and logistics from around the world from May 25-27.

While the world awaits a clear victory over a global pandemic, the supply chain carries on. As the freight system navigates these challenges, it continues to work toward the sustainability goals set out by the State and called for by local communities.


A free in-person Town Hall Meeting will take place to tackle the big questions head on.

The METRANS Transportation Consortium was established in 1998 as the first University Transportation Center in Southern California. METRANS is a joint partnership of the University of Southern California (USC) and California State University, Long Beach (CSULB).

METRANS' mission is to solve metropolitan transportation problems of large through interdisciplinary research, education and outreach. Its three primary objectives are: (1) fostering independent, high quality research to solve the nation's transportation problems; (2) training the next generation transportation workforce; and (3) disseminating information, best practices, and technology to the professional community.
