In Conversation with C.L.E.A.T:
In Support of Everyday Texans
In May, I joined Representative Beckley and other colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives in asking Governor Abbott to waive unemployment certifications (also known as manual payment requests). This action would help ease the workload of the Texas Workforce Commission and allow Texans who cannot request payment by no fault of their own receive their benefits without delay. If you are experiencing issues getting through to TWC, please contact our office for assistance.

Safe Elections for All
I also worked with my fellow Representatives and Dr. Cortez to present a letter to Governor Abbott asking him to consider safe options for voting; to ensure that Texans have meaningful opportunities to vote without putting their, or election workers, health in danger. Our elections are the cornerstone of democracy and should not be jeopardized.

**You can read the letter here .**

If you have any questions in regards to voting in our state, or questions about requesting mail-in ballots, please reach out to our District Office by calling 972-239-5367 or emailing District102.Ramos@house.texas.gov

National Police Week & C.L.E.A.T. Call

Law enforcement officials are part of one of the most dangerous professions, risking their lives to protect our communities. Last month, I wrote a letter to Governor Abbott requesting his help in providing coverage for all first responders that contract COVID-19. This month we celebrated National Police Week by honoring those who dedicate their lives to serve and protect.

I was also joined in by C.L.E.A.T. Executive Director, Charley Wilkison, in a video call to review how state leaders can best advocate for our law enforcement officials.
You can view our conversation in the video linked at the top of this newsletter.
A.C.T.I.O.N. Steering Committee Meeting
This month I hosted a virtual A.C.T.I.O.N. Steering Committee meeting to review the legislative process, and catch up with our local volunteers. This group is made up of everyday individuals that want to get directly involved with community and legislative work.

We are currently seeking more volunteers, so if you are interested in joining any of our groups, (Education, Public Health, Public Safety, Community Outreach, and Public Housing) please reach out to
District102.Ramos@house.texas.gov to get started.
Town Hall Recap
At the end of May, I hosted our first ever Virtual Town Hall!

I covered information about our election process and mail-in ballots, and one thing is clear--in order for us to have successful elections, we need to have enough poll workers, so if you are able, I strongly encourage you to visit DallasCountyVotes.org and become a poll worker.

Please join us for our next Town Hall on June 26th at 6:00pm. To RSVP, please click here .

DFW Muslim Community: RISD Teacher/Staff Appreciation
It was a pleasure to join the DFW Muslim community this month to honor RISD teachers and staff through a drive-by meal delivery celebration. Thank you to all of the different organizations and businesses who came together to celebrate our RISD staff, and for inviting me to join you. It was amazing to see everyone come together for such a great cause.

Letter Asking for Assisted Living Facility Residents & Staff be Prioritized for COVID-19 Testing
On May 28th, Representative Hinojosa and a bipartisan coalition of Texas House members signed a letter asking Gov. Abbott to prioritize testing for Assisted Living Facility (ALF) Residents and Staff, seeing that over 100 Texans who resided in ALFs have died of COVID-19, at least one ALF staff member.

Governor Abbott issued an executive order on May 21st to expand testing to include residents, patients, and staff of State Supported Living Centers (SSLCs) and State Hospitals. After these facilities are tested, then the state will begin testing ALFs, however, no timeline was assigned to get this done and in this situation, time is of the essence.
