Court Construction Update
Mike Klatt, Vice President
| |
On Friday April 22nd Construction Committee member, Larry Garnett, and I met with Mitch for a status update. Here is a summary:
- We are still waiting for Charlotte County approval of the site plan. Once we have County approval, we can then plan the move of the Rampart Arts & Crafts building.
- Also, after County approval, the Maple Leaf Maintenance group will begin earthwork which will include:
- grading,
- taking out most of the trees behind all the courts, including courts one and two,
- moving the berms back a few feet and extending them all to 8 feet, and
- replanting new trees along the berm.
- We confirmed the eight-foot fencing between courts 3 & 4.
- The internet cabling currently running behind the courts will NOT have to be moved.
- Electrical conduit must be installed at the back side of court 4.
- ML Maintenance is currently making plans for pipes around the bottom of Courts 1 & 2 to eliminate safety hazards.
We will continue to keep you advised of any new developments and timelines. Thank you for your support, understanding, and patience.

Welcome Brenda Laughhunn! (law-hon)
ML Pickleball Club Safety Coordinator
I am grateful to have been asked, by Mike Klatt, to serve in this role. In my short time here at ML, we have seen scrapes, strains, and a life-threatening cardiac event on the court. As a result, we now have an excellent First Aid kit and supplies that will be continuously updated and replenished.
As an RN with 36 years of experience including CPR certification, part of my role will be exploring opportunities and sharing proven tested information to make our pickleball time as safe as possible including CPR & Defibrillator trainings. I'm excited to get started and would love to hear from you any ideas or recommendations.

Scoring Helpful Hint
When a team’s score is even, the player who served first in that game must be on the right (even-facing the net) side of the court and on the left (odd) side when the score is odd. Or, expressed alternately, when the first server of that game is on the right side of the court, that team’s score should be even. If this is not the case, then either the players are positioned on the wrong side of the court or the called score is inaccurate.
