Management Review
May 2018
Tony Castiglie, Vice President & Treasurer
We are midway through Spring & I have marveled at the great weather we have enjoyed this year. I cannot remember a Spring where the weather has been so nice. Summer is coming & in Houston, we all know what that means.
The Volunteers ran 194 Missions during March. With four months down, 65 Volunteers have run 821 Missions. Our target for the year remains about 2,500, a bit of an increase over last year.
And now for the leaders:
Top 10 Volunteers – 2018 in their Number of Missions
1. Sandra Begalke 124
2. Charles Whitworth 102
3. Dick Stabell 55
4. Tony LaRosa 54
5. David LaFargue 53
6. Laurie Galland 27
7. Bo Hunter 27
8. Paulette Blackburn 26
9. Derek King 23
10. Charles Gibson 22
As mentioned in the April Newsletter, Angel Flight dissolved their “Ground Crew” last year, a group that provided ground transportation for their air mission patients. We have now been overwhelmed by requests from many Angel Flight’s patients now seeking support from us. We are not keeping up. We had 85 “Unfulfilled Missions” last month, more than double what we have ever had before. We simply do not have enough volunteers to handle all the requests we have for our services. This has been a topic for discussion at every Board of Directors meeting but thus far, we do not have any easy solutions. We continue to reach out for more volunteers.
To every volunteer, “Thank You” for being part of this wonderful organization and making it the success that it is. 2018 should be another good year.

A New Book on the Market!

The web designer who helped with our website, Chris: him and his wife, Cathie were missionaries. They returned to Houston when Cathie was diagnosed with stage four cancer. Through her journey, she wrote a book and Chris asked if I would share it with our volunteers. The name of her book is:

In His Grip : A Divine Weaving of Faith, Circumstance, Community, & Prayer
God weaves our circumstances to shape our faith and develop our life tapestry of His faithfulness and love.
In His Grip is a roller coaster journey through sorrow, tears, darkness, laughter,
prayer and joy. As the journey unfolds, the reader can see God weaving a beautiful tapestry of experiences reflecting His great faithfulness and love even when life doesn’t make sense. The story is for anyone who has come face to face with a mountain that seemed immovable or circumstances that seemed impossible.

To all of our volunteers who have been using their Kroger card to support Houston Ground Angels. We received a check from Kroger that helps cover some of the organization's expenses. If you shop at Kroger and have not signed up yet to have Houston Ground Angels as your charity of choice, please do so at their website:

Also, if you are employed or retired, please check with your company or previous company to see if they match your volunteer hours with Houston Ground Angels.

Thank you for considering this!
