IPPS-ER CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT

In keeping with the IPPS tradition of putting our members first, the IPPS-ER Board has decided to cancel our 2020 Annual Conference scheduled for Hamilton, Ontario in September. This decision did not come lightly as we know the importance of connecting face to face. But in considering the safety of holding an event with large group gatherings, cozy bus tours and air travel, it was decided the risks are too great .  While we will not meet in person in Hamilton, we are researching alternative ways to meet, have events, and share our stories; we WILL continue to “Seek and Share”! Read more HERE .
NEW HEMLOCK HYBRID
WITHSTANDS WOOLY ADELGID

A hybrid hemlock, which is not vulnerable to the insect hemlock woolly adelgid, has been developed by the Agricultural Research Service's (ARS) U.S. National Arboretum. 'Traveler', as the new variety is named, is a cross between the Chinese hemlock ( Tsuga
chinensis ) and the native Carolina hemlock ( Tsuga caroliniana ). A plant patent has been applied for 'Traveler', and ARS is looking for commercial propagation partners to help bring this new plant to the nursery trade. Check it out HERE .

   

PLANTS TO THE RESCUE

Scientists are taking another look at phytoremediation, or the process of using plants to clean up toxic soil or water. Advances have led to significant savings and all from naturally occurring microbes - avoiding the political quagmire of genetic engineering. Student Scholarship - Apply Now!
June 1, 2020 deadline
The IPPS Eastern Region Foundation is inviting students who are currently working towards a 2-year, 4-year, or graduate level degree in horticulture or a related field to apply for one of two $2,000 scholarships which are being offered for students who have completed at least two semesters (terms) by the end of the Spring 2020 academic year. The deadline for submitting applications is June 1st. Successful applicants will be notified by August 1st. Please share with your friends in horticulture.
